The rules (since eerm ever!) Are very clear for a goal, a throw in, a corner/goal kick etc - the whole ball must go out of play!

If less than 50% of the ball is hitting the leg stump and the on-field Umpire has given the batsman out then the decision stays out. However, if less than 50% of the ball is hitting the leg stump and the on-field Umpire has given the batsman not out then the decision stays not out. It's this dodgy grey area that frustrates folk all the time, where an Umpire can give 1 of 2 decisions and is proved to be "correct" either way via the use of hawkeye technology. So he can give a decision of out or not out and if it gets refered to the third umpire then he's proved "right" in the eyes of the rules either way. Oh, you're talking about a football crossing a goal line in a game of association football?? Then you're obviously either taking the piss or errrrr....errrrrr....errrrr  |

I also disagree with handling in the area,I think all goal keepers, can handle the ball anywhere on the pitch.

What's so hard to understand?
The WHOLE ball, as in 100% of it- you know, all of the round, circular matter that constitutes a ball has to be OVER the line. Not 'a bit over' or ' as over as dammit' or 'so close to going over that we might as well call it as over'....OVER. That means, whole line visible because the ball is past it.
That's a wholly necessary black and white rule we have there, and it's pretty clear from that picture that the whole of the ball hasn't crossed the line.

This is the controversial bit for me.......if the edge of the white line forms a true tangent to the circumference of the ball is that counted as over the line? Or does there have to be green visible between the circumference of the ball and the edge of the white line? This for me is where the rule becomes a bit grey instead of black and white.
