I thought first half we looked second best and we looked under the cosh for the majority of the second half. We played well on the counter attack but don't let that gloss over what wasn't one of the best performances we've seen this season.

First half, apart from their brief spell at the start, we were the better team and deserved our goal. Second half they looked dangerous after we got the second but we ended that danger by scoring a third. I thought it was a very good performance.

Today I thought we had to grind it out, but once we got the second, we had it in the bag. As for our best team, replace Wilson with Huth and Ireland with Adam and you would pretty much have our best team.

could always drop adam into a holding role for whelan/zonzi and will have assaidi and guidetti to bring on if needed when everyone's fit

We need a better squad as no team can expect to play the same 11 each week. Players are being picked on merit which promotes healthy competition but we do need the choices to be equal if at all possible.

When Huth Walters and Adam are available they will have to wait for their chance IMO never change a side just because you can especially a winning side. Gouranga.

The bad news is that we don't know what our best team is yet.
The good news is that that is because in recent weeks a number of different XIs playing in a few different systems have put in fine performances to get good results.

The Hughes way seems to be that the shirt is yours until you lose it. Can't argue with that.

We were half asleep early on, but then picked up. Story of the season. Not true. Some games we've been good early on and then tailed off. Man City for example. Our problem is that we rarely string two halves of decent football together.

Adam for Nzonzi IMO That's all is required. It would be great to have quality the likes of Nzonzi to come on.

I thought N'Zonzi was excellent yesterday.
I'd keep him in for the time being.
Probably swap Ireland for Adam if there was to be a change, but other than that, the team that played yesterday should definitely be the first choice.

And would you play Adam and Ireland in the same side? If MH wants to keep Stephen Ireland here at the Brit, the he needs to play him as much as possible between now and the end of the season. In theory they should be able to play alongside each other - in reality they fit into slightly different systems imo. It is very important that we have a strong squad, not just 11 key players to call on. Whether the likes of Ireland, N'Zonzi, Adam are happy to be in a "rotation" set up is another question I like the principle that MH sticks with players who are playing well (obviously he was always going to put Bego back in once fit) Adam and Walters are going to have to earn a recall

Theres no doubt Nzonzi as improved since coming back into the fold but Adam was magnificent when given the chance in a midfield 4 and theres no evidence that Adam and Ireland cant play together. I'm not going to subscribe to the claptrap that Walters dirty work helps Adam's performance. I would however be delighted for the team that played yesterday to continue as long as they perform to a similar standard.

My response to Potterpaul were just genuine questions because like you I'm a firm believer in players who are performing well keeping their place in the side, and players needing to fight for their places. I think Hughes doesn't fancy Adam and Ireland in the same starting eleven and going off this seasons form so far it'd be Adam for me. You're right that they can operate in different positions but for some reason Hughes doesn't seem to think so,well not at the same time anyway.

A game like this especially when 2-1 up was crying out for Walters for a bit of endeavor
I hope he doesn't walk back in team as his best role would be substitute, and a good one to have at that

The Hughes way seems to be that the shirt is yours until you lose it. Can't argue with that. Unless your name is Walters The next two games might give us the answer to that one. If we're as impressive (and effective) as we were yesterday, then I'd be really surprised to see Walters start the following game (barring injuries). Time will tell.

I have an Elvis album called "The Ultimate Performance" where the record company have pieced together parts of different shows to create a fictitious "best show". If we add together Stoke's first 30 mins against Newcastle with the last 30 minute against WHU, can someone suggest the best middle 30 minutes, or some other combination of games to create Stoke's "ultimate performance"? (Just a laugh, don't take me seriously.)

the score did not necessarily reflect the performance yesterday in my opinion. I think we have played better this season and not won. The first half was pretty boring and 2 guilt edged chances missed by Ireland , their goal on defensive lapses by Crouch and Begovic and bloody hell, a million back passes ! Pieters is much better at left back than Muniesa. I hope Walters stays out until the end of the season, unless we have a 3 goal lead in a game and we need him to come on t od osome running and tire out the oppositions counter attack

Even if we went from now until the end of the season without losing, which we won't Huth will be back playing as soon has he is fit enough and so he should be.Having said that I thought the lads were brill yesterday.
