Has anyone played it yet on PC?
Visually beautiful old fashioned city builder where the whole point of the game is to develop a sustainable town/village.
£15 on Steam.

Like Sim City? Or more like Tropico? Personally, I prefer Tropico.

I have it. One lad is responsible for the whole thing. It has quite a few glitches and bugs, at the moment, but the guy appears to be working away at them (fingers crossed). It is - when it runs OK - and extremely relaxing game, punctuated by odd moments of mad panic if and when a disaster occurs. It is absolutely beautiful to look at. If you like "action" in your Builder (problems to solve etc), this might be a bit too quiet; if you like building and watching (most of the time) then it's ... lovely. More like tropico than Sim city, but not really like either

Oops! Totally forgot I made this thread . Agree with everything above. I've just lost my first city because I tried to expand a little too quickly. Then the old guard started to die off and we ended up with no food. Lost half my bloody population :/. Its a great game, very fun. Very unforgiving unlike Sim City and Tropico.

I have been looking at both Banished and Tropico but I'm not sure if my laptop is good enough. It's a Dell Inspiron with Windows Vista and I have had it for about 5 years. Don't want to buy a game that doesn't work or is really slow.

Don't want to buy a game that doesn't work or is really slow. Go here: Can I Run It , select the game from the drop down and click the "Can YOU Run it" button. It'll tell you if your Laptop or PC is up to the task (both minimum and maximum specs for the game). If you don't want to click the link I provided (being this is my first post, I can understand that!) - then search for Can I Run It or the direct website is Systemrequirementslab.com

Will do it when I get home. Have you played Banished? Looks good from the videos. Only been on Steam for a week. God knows why I never bothered before.

So my laptop is more than good enough to play The Sims 2 but nowhere near good enough to play Banished which to me looks like a smaller game.

Yeah I can see Banished getting a bit tough on PC's/Laptops later on. You can have a population of over a thousand all on the screen doing their own thing at a time. Even the new consoles would probably start to struggle by then

Anyone know any decent games similar to The Sims or Rollercoaster Tycoon? My laptop is a bit crap so older games would be better.

www.cityofgangsters.com/Quirky, different and great fun. should be a new one soon too (so you might get this first version quite cheap). Check the specs; it might be too much if your laptop is 5 years old ... but I don't think it is quite as heavy as banished on memory or graphics. If you have watched Boardwalk Empire, you will find this a great addition to that series

Rome total war is another good one, should be able to run that quite easily.

I always liked Age of Empires. AOE 2 will run no problem and is a decent game for such an old one. However, I doubt you will be able to run AOE 3, even my laptop has problems with that and it's only a year old. There's a HD version available on steam, or you can download it for free here: www.grandpcgames.com/strategy/age2.html

Wait for the Steam Sales - I could have spent an absolute fortune when those sales are on. Not played Banished, I'm a Battlefield player in all honesty but I do love a bit of Civilisation and Sim City - all in the same vein.

Bought Rome Total War, Sim City 4 and Anno 1404 the other day. 3 for £10 at game. Not really played much on any but Sim City 4 is looking good so far.

Been playing a bit of Banished, addictive but my main problem was always running out of food during the spring. I've now built up huge farms and numerous fisheries, so my 40 or so farmers are farming Spring - Autumn, then they go and join the 10 or so fisherman to take it up to 50 in winter.
Sees me through the springs a whole lot easier now which was the only time with a shortage.
