I know he's long gone and his powers are on the wane but his goal merits a thread given the circumstances.
With Ric a regular for them, Blackpool were going great guns. He was sent off early in December and he played his first game for them since then at the weekend.
During that time they haven't won a single game without him, have slipped from promotion contenders to relegation candidates.
Ric returns, he scores and they win their first game since he was missing.
The fortunes of Charltons season last year tracked Ric's availability as well.
He may not be the player he was but he is clearly still very influential in the fortunes of his club.
What a player. Every time I see his name, see he's scored, I just can't help but smile and remember just how good he was.
I put my lad to bed and he was singing Ricardo Fuller is City's no.10 having watched various U-Tube clips of him having seen he scored.
I can't help but love the great man!

His problem is that he's always injured now, a consequence of him not getting a proper pre-season after leaving us. At both Charlton and Blackpool, he has been the club's stand out player whenever he has been fit to play.
Had he not been released on a free by us, he wouldn't have his injury problems, he'd still be better than Crouch or Walters and the previous manager would still be in a job.

Thing is in that first season in the Prem Ric was one of few players we had who could match the touch of some of our more illustrious opponents. His skill was priceless.

His goal in our first PL win vs Villa still makes my neck tingle. IMO the best goal of our PL lives by a country mile. Well maybe not a country mile but still the best.

I loved Ric as much as the next bloke but I think if he had stayed another season some fans may have started to turn on him. He was past his best at that point and I think he should rightly be remembered for the great player he was and not someone who was struggling to get 10 mins here and there. Some think he should have stayed, I think he went at the right time.

For me he still had loads to offer coming off the bench.

I am just happy to remember him at his best and not have to watch him fade away. I do however wish we had, had the chance to give him a proper send off.

I love Fuller as much as the next man but you are off your trolleys if you think he would still be cutting it in the Premiership over the last couple of years. After his simply unbelievable first season in the Prem then he simply struggled to keep it going. Ethers and Tuncay outscored him in 09/10 in the league....Kitson scored as many from less games.

Is he still highly regarded at Preston? Was watching some old games on cable the other day and Fuller scored a spectacular goal for them. He spent 3 or 4 years with them and was pretty succesful. But never heard from any Preston fans if he was considered a "legend" there or not.
Anyone know any Preston fans?

Tony knew it was the right time to let him go (mainley to upper body strength, shoulder issues) but no way tried to kick him in the balls and humiliate him like some say. Tony loved and still loves Fuller. (some stories where he could never loose his rag with Ric are a pisser) I have never spoken to Fuller but I get the impression that feeling was mutual. I always thought he could have stayed for longer and even told Tony that, but the fact he didn't was nothing but a pure football decision from T.P.

he scored 7 league goals in the next 2 seasons
Jones scored 9 in his first season alone.
The lack of goals from forwards in our second season was probably part of the reason why we spent £8M on Jones....and it paid off. The success of Jones was probably a big part of the reason why Pulis went for Crouch - proven goalscorers would make the difference.

He was even interviewed on SKY saying how he treated Fuller differently than other players. Fuller was allowed to have his mobile in the dressing room when everyone else was banned, he turned up late countless times without recourse because ' That's just Ric'. It was time for him to go with our thanks. Lets not make him out to be a victim here. H

But if it was a pure football decision to phase him out then, for me, it was arguably the biggest bollock TP dropped in his time as our manager. Despite the sterling efforts of Crouch and Walters we've never come close to replacing Ric. He was a one off and we should have been moulding the team around him rather than shoehorning him into positions that were alien to him.
