Another superb effort of defensive midfield play from Glenda. Disciplined, no desire to create, neat, tidy, solid, ferocious when needed.
Another great game.

I really like Whelan. One of the few from the championship that is still stepping up when needed through hard work and dedication. It's because of players with his mentality that we are still in the division. He's not the perfect player but he's exactly what you need in a relegation battle.

Just shows what a proper coaching team can do with a mediocre player.

To be fair to tone, Whelan hasn't lived up to the potential. 6 years to start getting these performances

He's been excellent since he signed.....some see it some don't
All our best runs and achievements have come with him in the team
One of our best ever signings and is up there with Shawcross Fuller and Rory

I think Whelan has always been a good player for us and has been very unfortunate to find himself maligned by our supporters.
I've knocked him before, but there's never been a time when he hasn't been one of our two best central midfield options since he arrived.

He's been brilliant as well as others but didnt see this good of a run happening. Well deserved turnaround. Makes me happy we kept players like him from the old regime who "want" to get stuck in. So many improvements in most Stoke players under Hughes and his team tbh.

Never been a fan really but have to hold my hand up and apologise to Whelan whilst praising Hughes.
I think he's been superb this season and fully deserves any end of season awards that come his way.
Adam also deserves an honoury mention...another Hughes success story.

One of the best bargains that we have ever signed.

Like many I have moaned at Whelan for some terrible play in the past. Now though, I think he is what makes us. Heart, determination, passion and honesty. With more and more skill and flair on show he is worth his weight in gold.

Sometimes his sister, Glenda turns up - but more and more this season Glenn turns up - today he was superb and his pick the ball up and run near the end to relieve the pressure epitomised his game today

Another superb effort of defensive midfield play from Glenda. Disciplined, no desire to create, neat, tidy, solid, ferocious when needed. Another great game. Strangely I was thinking just the other day about the most improved player under Hughes and Whelan immediately came to mind, never disliked him but never really been a fan either. This season, especially of late, he's been absolutely superb as you say. I was at a party a while back and was talking to a Stoke youth player, when I asked him who the best player was in his opinion he said Whelan without hesitation, surprised me at the time to be honest.

Not been a Whelan fan but perhaps he's been a victim of TP's playing style, certainly looked a different player under Hughes,

Glen gets slagged off quite often on here. Yes he has the odd off game. He joined us before we got back into the premiership, and is still playing for us now. He has been a great player for this club. And is playing some great football.

He's been excellent since he signed.....some see it some don't All our best runs and achievements have come with him in the team One of our best ever signings and is up there with Shawcross Fuller and Rory I see it ,always have done , I was sick of pointing out that regardless of who played in T.P's cage would have struggled in that system, simply because other than hoofing it to Sidibe / Jones /Crouch there was never any options for any midfielder , consequently they had to either pass the ball square , backwards or hoof it to a lone target man marked by 2 or 3 6ft+ Centre Backs ,whenever there have been options , such as when we played with 2 out and out wingers (Pennant and Etherington circa 2011) during a brief period before January 2013 and for most of this season Whelan has been excellent.

Whelan never reached his potential? What expect a 500k player to potentialy play like? wasn't he out of contract at Wednesday at the end of season hence low price Came with this great reputation but we have only ever saw glimpses. This season is the first bit of consistency he's had. Most stoke fans wouldn't have been too upset if he left last summer

It certainly helps playing for a manager who values the ball being played through the midfield.
Biggest surprise for me is that it's taken 6 years for some supporters to finally recognize what a quality player Glenn Whelan is.

Most stoke fans wouldn't have been too upset if he left last summer I think that's true, its a shame, as he been brilliant as a servant to for us over the years. Yet when Pulis created the "cage" and decided Glen was to be locked up in it for 5 years, its hard to fully see what he is capable of as a player! You hope that maybe now with a change in coaching team we may be able to get another couple of seasons from him,
