Hodgson says months ago it would have been tough to pick 23 players who are/were good enough to go to Brazil, but says he thinks everyone can now see, along with him, that it is easy to pick 23 that are good enough.
Good enough for what?

Last night was a solid enough performance and result. I'm not sure what some people expect to be honest, look how other teams fared last night who are shorter or equivalent odds to win the World Cup than we are, Germany scrapped a 1-0 win at home to Chile, Belgium drew 2-2 at home to Ivory Coast and Argentina drew 0-0 in Romania. We may not have been at our best last night but we still dominated possession, had four times as many attempts at goal than Denmark and bar some excellent goalkeeping from Kasper Schmeichel we could've quite easily won 3 or 4 nil. I think we are in decent shape going into the World Cup personally.

thought cahill and smalling played quite well tbh, even though smalling is having a poor season I certainly thought Cahill played well. I don't think Ryan is quite good enough for England but it's a fine line when you look at what he's up against.

So what about Sterling as MOM? I thought he was very avearage Thoughts? i thought he was very very good at picking the ball up, running down the line then not even trying to take a man on and turning backwards because he had no ideas so if a MOTM was based on that he'd have won hands down!! out of the attacking players i thought Sturridge was by far the best.showed lots of composure, confidence and maturity.knew when to hold it up and when to give it simply. wasn't a world class performance but one of those games where he showed the "Younger" players how they should play the international game; keep possession, be patient and don't try to force things if they're not going to happen. been very impressed with his attitude and maturity when he's turned out for the England side so far and think he'd really benefit from Hodgson finally realising that a bit of tempo is actually what England need to stamp any kind of authority on the game and try to keep the pressure on. the slow, spanish style build up going sideways, forwards, backwards, sideways, backwards etc. etc. really doesn't suit us at all. get the tempo up and then we have players like sturridge, sterling, townsend, ox-chamb. etc. who can all (whichever ones are playing) utilise and exploit that perfectly. there's a difference between being patient and keeping possession so you can break/swiftly exploit gaps you create and simply keeping possession because you don't know how to get the ball up the pitch quickly, hodgson hasn't cottoned onto that yet though it seems.

thought cahill and smalling played quite well tbh, even though smalling is having a poor season I agree that I thought Cahill did well, although was afraid / reluctant to attack high balls into the box, he cut out a lot of through balls and I think he covered Smalling. I think the commentator was right that they were both missing a strong defender beside them, however Smalling was conspicuous by his defensive jitteriness, poor positioning and general lack of confidence. He is definitely out of form and has been for a while, as anyone could do little triangle passes ( interspersed with the odd longer pass) when not under pressure. When he was under pressure, there was an alarming sense of panic in his play and he never looked assured in dealing with this pressure, something that Cahill looked to have much more in comparison. Definitely another case of NOT being picked on form. In other words, keep him... It'll give us a better chance of winning the WM2014 by weakening your team

For a big lad Smalling is a bit of fanny really. No physical presence at all which he should have for someone his size/stature...
