Here's to hoping we can get our old Matty back, we need him now, more than ever really. Say what you will, but on his day what a player he has been for us. Good luck Matthew, take this time and show us you still got it left in you for one last Hurrah. We'll never forget Wembley mate.

Matty could still do a job wide midfield , he doesn't have the pace anymore to play as a winger

Sorry to say but I think Matty is finished. He has hardly played for the best part of 2 seasons. Not knocking the bloke because I am a fan of his I just think his football days at this level are finished. Having said that I hope he proves me wrong and rips the prem apart from now until may.

We don't have much choice on the left, and I think he will do just just fine while Assaidi gets healthy again. Matty never disappears during a match like some other recent purchases have, don't count him out just yet fellas.
"ETHERINGTON !!!!!!"

He's certainly not been the same player since injuries took their toll. But part of the problem MAY have been that his injury prone seasons coincided with the loss of form of Pennant. With Wingie and/or Arnie on the opposite side of the pitch providing pace and/or guile Ethers may find sufficient space to display at least a little bit of what made him so good - even if it is only on a part time basis. Only 12 games to go - let's hope Ethers can hold together long enough to play a part. It would be nice if he did have a short "Indian Summer" and contribute to a good finish to the season.

Wouldn't that be fantastic? To see Matty chip in with a few assists and a couple of goals would be a fitting finale to his Stoke career. One of my favourite players of the modern era. One things for sure we can't go on patching things up, The Summer needs a major overhaul of the squad and if we are still in this league then the manager needs substantial backing.

Dream on. He's a spent force. Why should he miraculously become good? Hes only getting a place in the team out of desperation. He was certainly class when he first arrived but these days he's simply not good enough. He's lost his pace and he cant beat a man.

The best we can hope for is maybe he's got enough to come off the bench for the last 15 and whip a decent ball or two in. He's a better wide option than Walters and we don't have anyone else as cover, but you wouldn't have him in over Arnie or Odemwingie. I wouldn't anyway.

I suppose for his dead ball delivery you could make a case but out of desperation I think the best we could hope for is,as you say,15 minute cameos towards the end of games.

The only thing out wide I can see that Walters offers is getting into decent scoring positions but he doesn't take the chances when he gets them. The only way to use him is behind the striker for me. I think Ethers is better out wide at tracking back and can whip in a corner or two. I wouldn't have either starting at the moment though.

He might offer better protection to Eric who is most probably still dizzy from the working over Dyer gave him the other night.

I really hope Matty can throw back the shadows one more time and put in some good performances.
In terms of everything he brought to the side he was a different class to anyone we have attempted to replace him with.
The case for optimism, if there is one, is simply that this time he has had a decent length of time to recover from his ham string and other problems whereas in the past since he was so pivotal we always rushed him back too soon.
Goarrrrn Matty !!

For me a nod for Etherington would surely smell of desperation and lack of cover in our team. It‘ d be like the charge of the light brigade all euphoric nonsense.

He's been a lame duck for years and has been held on to for two seasons more than he should have been at least.
If we can get the "old Matty" back, some minor miracle will have to occur.

He didn't really have a great amount of time to do anything really. He seems like hes got his speed back but I always worry about him pulling something. He juked around well and played a couple nice passes at pace. Seems he's our only options barring Walter's being thrown into LW... Still more encouraging to see than Palacios coming on lol

It's a US Canadian and Aussie term. I think it's a rugby/ American Football term I've picked up. Juking and jiving around defender's

He is worth playing for a twenty minute spell.
Should I call it a cameo? It's hard keeping up with the lingo on here.

Understand your negativity towards an aging squad player of ours; and no my honesty with my feelings does not make anything I say legitimate. Just trying to be positive. What are you doing captain obvious?
