David Beckham was on £26 million a year, other sports are on more than what Rooney will be on. Whilst it is ludicrous the amount of money been thrown around surely people should be criticising the club or even better criticising the premier league not the player , & for saying how much money he wastes why don't you check how much money he gives too charity.
I agree with this because, let's face it, if Rooney had been born in 1935 I'm sure he would've still become a footballer. It's not his fault he gets paid obscene amounts of money. My dad despises footy, seriously despises it, yet when the wages of a top-level footballer get brought up in conversation he'll say "well if someone is willing to pay them that sort of money then good luck to them".

Meh. I'm getting far more into women's football these days. Less money, less cheating, more competitive and, ironically, far fewer c*nts.

Equally prostitutes are paid an obscene amount of money for obscene acts that some would argue offer even more entertainment and pleasure than Wayne Rooney , but that does not mean that it is morally right....

You aren't seriously trying to draw a parallel between the morality of being a footballer and the morality of selling your body for sex are you!?

As obscene amount as it seems, fair play to him. Don't hate the player, hate the game as they say.. What's your average American Televangelist rake in or crack dealing pimp for that matter? No one is jealous of their earnings, but yet Wayne Rooney, a fucking amazing footballer on his day is being slated for being paid what HE FEELS he's worth? You got one shot at life, and he has taken it. Fair Fucking Play Lads, jealousy is a bitch. We're the suckers who pay his wage, he'd be doing the same if his knee blew out sideways at 17 yrs old. Don't ever forget how quick this game can discard you in the same breath.

I have always believed if anyone is willing to pay you, whatever amount, then good luck to you because nobody gives you something for nothing. But the sheer size of this deal who for a Player is nowhere near as good as he was 4 or 5 years ago says one thing to me. The Shit are are really desperate!!! They may have a huge transfer fund but the quality of player they need to compete at the highest level is scarce, and if they find someone it will cost them 50 mill and more for a proven performer, who may not want to come to the Prem anyway. The fact is they don't only need one so called Superstar, this is the worst Utd team I can remember for a long time. Shit defence, weak midfield and Ashley Young means they need 4 or 5 quality Players if they want to challenge for a top four place. This package puts Rooney in the World Superstar class, lets see how he does in the World Cup, if he stays fit of course.

It's all wrong when you see what nurses, fireman, police. Teachers etc earn Why the fuck use police, fireman, and teachers? All will retire at 60 on very nice pensions paid for by the tax payer. He will earn more in a week than a neurosurgeon does in a year. That is bloody wrong. After seeing how some of the police conducted themselves at old Trafford this season applauding them in any way sickens me. It takes a very warped kind of logic to turn the Rooney wage thread into a dig at the public service professions. But you managed it.

It's an obscene amount of money and it's why I'm very disillusioned with the game in general. You can't blame the footballers, they'll get as much as they can like any of us would.
It's in our power to stop it though - just stop going and watching it and the clubs go bankrupt. Easier said than done of course as we're fans and we're brought up with the game as part of our life

That would be pointless. It's the mega-clubs that pay the silly money and for every Manc, Gooner, Scouser who stops going to the games, there will be a Chinese tourist who takes their place. So the big clubs lose nothing by true fans boycotting games while clubs like ours would just lose more money with which to try and stay in the top league. There's only one way: stop your TV subscriber sports package and avoid purchasing products advertised by their sponsors during the commercial breaks. The TV companies is where the silly money comes from. End the TV sponsorship and then the foreign investors will lose interest as it becomes a less globally accessible product.

Its not just football though....the whole world is fcked up and we're all to blame.
To be fair to Rooney and other highly paid footballers they have trained and practiced for years and years.
Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie etc etc are just good looking people who can pout and cry on cue.
My inability to do a convincing impression of a seed growing into a tree combined with my lack of charisma and good looks meant that, just like Rooney, I had to go down the footballing route.
Unfortunately, unlike Rooney, I'm a bit shit.

That's what I meant by stopping watching it. It's our Sky Sports packages that have funded this madness but we all enjoy it and pay for it - the players are just reaping the rewards. The end result being a bloke who kicks a ball around for a living earns more in a week than many of us do in 10 years.

Unfortunately, unlike Rooney, I'm a bit shit. Sure they can pout but are you sure they can all cry on cue? One thing I am sure of is that in acting the best do not get paid the most....same as in all the arts. At least in football a player has to be top of the game to get the biggest money on the whole. That said the current massive gaps between the highest paid members of society and the lowest is nothing short of a sickness.

The West Ham fan that rang 606 tonight summed up my feelings on this and had a right go at Savage who was trying to defend the obscene amount of money per week.

Just like it's crazy that people like singers and actors can make millions in royalties every year from albums and films they made years ago.

Also, if greedy fuckers like him demand higher wages, wouldnt it mean that clubs would have to make more money via putting up ticket prices or merchandise prices somewhere along the line, which would, eventually, price the common man who made Football the game it is out of watching or supporting the team or sport they love so much? I love football, but its things like this that make me question my devotion to the game.

I love football, but its things like this that make me question my devotion to the game. With you there. The uncomfortable fact though is that we value these footballers more than we value the surgeons etc. Not Rooney's fault that people free to spend their money how they like would rather give it to someone like him. I mean, given a hypothetical choice, you could have 2 surgeons, 20 nurses, 20 soldiers, 10 police, 10 teachers, 20 builders, 10 engineers, 5 firemen, 10 farmer and 20 factory personnel for a year, or 1/4 of a Wayne Rooney. What is more useful. Yet we prefer to around 4 times more than that lot for someone who plays football. Not saying it's wrong that people have the free choice to give footballers whatever they want, but there is something wrong that they choose to do it. Thankfully surgeons and nurses on not so mercenary at the time us or our loved ones need putting back together. Even after that we still give those people that help or lay their lives on the line next to nowt in comparison. Seems illogical.

The shit would be better off if they used the money to buy some player more reliable or consistant than Rooney. Hes taking up space in the team from someone who could help the shit win some trophy. I wish he was good enough to earn such wages, because England might then win the world cup.
