Stan's winning 47 votes to Finney's 45. Let's have some more votes for Stan

Sir Stan is now ahead. Finney is close 2nd. Problem is, having just passed away, he will get both the sympathy vote and votes from people who have never heard of him until today and expect Finney to win and telegraph to close the poll once he is in the lead. Cynical old me.

Not to be disloyal but I voted for Bobby Moore. I dislike the way Man Utd players usually win these things because of their larger fan base (although not in this case). So I voted with my head rather than my heart

Putting team sympathies aside, Bobby Moore and Booby Charlton are by a mile the best players ever to play for England. In fact Booby Charlton was one of if not the best player in the world when we won the world cup.

In all honesty, I saw the title, clicked on the link and voted for Stan without even looking to see who else was on there (as I'm on my phone and couldn't be arsed). Still, we need to be ruthless to win these battles (smiley winky thing).

Voted for Sir Stan, but my father and uncle have always maintained that if Neil Franklin had not gone off to Bogota Billy Wright would never have got near 100 caps for England as our Neil was a far far superior player. In one of the tributes to Sir Tom I read he said Franklin was the best centre half he ever saw.

Difficult to say who is the greatest ever player to play for England but Bobby Charlton would probably be my choice if I was asked. To still be our all time top goalscorer is some feat and all this from midfield is something that will probably never be bettered.

Wow - Stan comfortably in the lead (as of 22:41); 477 vs closest rival Tom Finney (who promoted thus) on 105.
So are a thought for ole jug ears who has just three votes!
