Unbelievable!

Fantastic save from Begovic in the first place then top awareness from Ryan to get there, all we need is Huth back and hopefully we'll stop conceding some of these shit goals.

I agree with the OP. The worrying thing for me was how Bony was allowed to be that near to goal without a Stoke player anywhere near him.

Cameron I think, who looked all but lost. Good job we've got someone forward thinking, otherwise we'd be on the shitty end of another unnecessary loss.

Seriously, has Hodgson watched Ryan live this season? I always see him at games featuring Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal etc but has he actually been to watch him? After every game the only common thread is 'Ryan was immense again' (apart from 'How does Walters play every game' obviously. Hodgson clearly doesn't like Ryan as a player for some reason and it's a fcking disgrace people are calling for a Terry recall when Ryan is playing out of his skin (whatever that means!) this season.

That's the one cheers. Ace The one against Man City was incredible. If it was a Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City etc player, they'd have been wanking themselves dry.

He won't get an England call up. He's not a word class "player" what do you mean by "player"? Not sure but I think he means that Ryan is a superb DEFENDER, as in he stops everything you throw at him. But, his all round ability, (control, distribution, first touch) doesn't make him a good enough PLAYER to warrant a call-up? I maybe wrong, but they're my views anyway. He would be a first choice if England played like Stoke, but they don't. Having said that, in my opinion hes still a better option than the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill.

Anyone remember Beatties goal line clearance a few years ago? Can't remember who against. Was amazing though Glenn Whelan struck late to earn Stoke victory over Spurs, who will ruefully look back at missed chances. Aaron Lennon's curling shot was well kept out by Steve Simonsen, while Peter Crouch's header was acrobatically cleared off the line by James Beattie. Spurs 0-1 Stoke 2009/10

There's absolutely nothing wrong with his control, distribution or first touch. In fact I really can't remember off the top of my head any time the ball has bounced of Ryan's shin/knee or when the ball has skidded under his foot as he has tried to control the thing. I can certainly recall last night that he brought a high ball down on his chest, instantly under control. But I also realise some people believe the popular press that Ryan is nothing but a thug.

That's exactly what I meant. He's a very good defender, but, sadly his distribution etc is not up to scratch where the international class is concerned. I hope Hodgson proves me wrong but I can't see him even making the standby list

Did the rest just think "it's OK, Ryan will sort it"?

In my opinion the first and most important job of a defender is to defend. Which is why I rate Shawcross as one of the best defenders in the league, and he'd be a certainty (injury aside) for the World Cup if it was up to me.
But it's not, and he won't be going to Brazil this summer. Instead we'll have Gary Cahill turning his head and acting like a right pansy every time a shot comes his way. Alongside some Man Utd reserve player. At least those lads from Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica won't be going home with their legs shattered to pieces hey.

i forgot about this! if he doesn't get an england call up this time round it's time to start wondering if he ever will, he's not young anymore Won't happen spud. For a start he is far to committed for England. England don't want players chasing back to make goal line clearances. Remember he was the only one who tried to stop zlatans amazing goal. He got agonisingly close as well. England would rather have the snail brigade plodding along. How cahill and jagielka are in the squad is beyond me as they as toss on a weekly basis.

I find it more amazing at Smalling can get in the squad. He's been ripped apart by Stoke twice this season and countless times from other teams. Surely Hodgson can't pick players simply because of the club they play for? Because that's what it's looking like.
