So after another game (largely) without Nzonzi, are we any clearer if we're better off with or without him in the team?

Nzonzi undoubtedly has quality. You do have to look at his attitude though. You always get the feeling that he thinks he ought to be playing for Arsenal alongside Ozil. It doesn't get any worse than that.

Better without.
Since Adam has stepped up his game he's approaching N'zonzi in defending terms but miles ahead when it comes to attacking and vision.

We're better with him in the squad and better without him in the team.

We're going to learn something important about him over the next few weeks - how he responds to not bring an automatic first pick.
Let's hope he responds by raising his game not by sulking.
It's a big moment in time for his future at this club.
Great footballers combine talent with attitude. So far we've seen more of the former than the latter from N'Zonzi.

Think it just proves Adam is better in a slightly 'deeper' role with the play ahead of him, picking out the play.... i.e. what he was doing at Blackpool!!

For me, and I've been saying this for a while, Nzonzi has the link role -his job is to take the ball from the defence and Whelan and feed the attacking players. Unfortunately Nzonzi first instinct when he gets the ball is to protect it -to put his foot on it. It's what he does. This breaks up our attacks up and allows defences to regroup.
He's very talented - of that there's no doubt. Probably the most talented we have. But the way he plays at the moment hinders us more than helps us.

At Blackburn he was nailed on for a few shots per game
He just won't shoot at the minute

In the system we need to play - a mixture of Pulis aggression and Hughes commitment to more football - he's suplus to requirements at the moment. He's a damned good footballer, but he slows the game down too much. The last two games have shown us what works. Adam has been a better player playing alongside Whelan in this system, so, IMO, if it works, stick with it.
OS.

Excellent post , I would also add that there is something not quite right with the team dynamics with him in the starting eleven , coupled with the fact he has a tendency to self implode , it's a shame but we need to move on from nzonzi IMO !

Very very talented just needs to carry the ball forward more ala YAYA Toure and stop putting his foot on the ball and slowing the game down also has a sweet strike just doesn't use it enough

It'd be interesting to see how a midfield 2 of N'Zonzi and Adam would cope.
That's not a knock on Whelan, by the way.

Given how Swansea play I'd bring him back for Weds & push Adam back up near Crouch

Given how Swansea play I'd bring him back for Weds & push Adam back up near Crouch No, we need Walters to smash into their centre backs at every opportunity and cause them some pain. That has been the big difference last 2 games. Swansea love to build from the back and centre backs aren't much good at doing that with bruised ribs and bloodied noses.
