I will be happy with a 1-1 considering our back 4 could be a right miss match. Could it be worth going 3 at the back and flooding the mid field? Just think were gonna struggle.

Minor point but not so sure it was a 4-4-2 tbh. Walters played very close to Crouch and he was excellently supported all game, but out of possession, Walters was deep behind the ball as if an advanced midfielder.
The game v United was the same formation MH employs as always, but with two crucial differences. One, the advanced midfielder was Walters rather than Ireland or Adam as it normally is, who worked tirelessly to support Crouch. Two, the team played with huge pressure all game high up the pitch which meant Walters often gave the impression of being further up the pitch, simply by Stoke winning the ball higher up the pitch. And lastly, the defensive line was a lot higher, which condensed space in the midfield for United, and again, pushed SJW closer to Crouch.
Loved the high pressure and want to see that again. Excellent display v United.

I don't think Hughes does three at the back does he, nor is Shawcross agile enough to cover a huge amount of space. Would be great to see mind, and an extra centre back would make it easier to play out of Southampton's pressure game, but more likely is that we'll go with a four man defence and the CBs will be forced into going long a lot to Crouch, which isn't exactly a problem for us.

I just think that this is a tough, even very tough game. Anything out of this would be a bonus IMHO .

Id take a draw, but they are very susceptible to counterattack at home.. I hope we have a go. If we play our cards right we could get a win out of the game and the vital 3 points but I think this game will be tight. With our defensive shake up and new look midfield a draw seems reasonable to me. I'd be gutted if we got trounced after the showing vs United. How we bounce into the game in the first 15' mins I think will be a tell all.

We can't score goals away from home. Crouch played well on Saturday (and is a good player) but we cannot launch any counter attacks with him leading the line. Inject some pace into into the front line, and we may have a chance of getting something.
As it is, I think he will play Crouch and we will lose 2-0.

Why is this not stickied, hmm? Are the powers that be on strike? Standards are slipping away faster than the hopes of a Stokie on transfer deadline day And I will be another hoping to exchange a fairly vital body-part for a point, on Satdee.

If Arnie is out are we looking at SJW on the right with PO 'close' to Crouch and Assaidi wide left? Or Walters more central and PO on the wing?
Adam and Whelan CM.
Geoff moving to CB and Shotton at RB?

Southampton 2 - 0 Stoke
Then we can watch this board slide from euphoria to its usual wrist slashing form.

Southampton 2 - 0 Stoke Then we can watch this board slide from euphoria to its usual wrist slashing form. Not if we put in a decent shift and just get beaten fair and square. Can't argue with that. Anyway, keep the faith. No reason why we won't get something out of this game. Sent from my GT-I9192 using proboards

Why don't people just write the score the right way rather than add 'Stoke' at the end of a home result?
For example, instead of 2-0 Stoke or 3-1 Stoke, just put 0-2 or 1-3.
Anyway enough nitpicking, I'm going for 2-1 Stoke.

Anyway enough nitpicking, I'm going for 2-1 Stoke. I think it's just that people have (subconsciously perhaps) gone all U,S of A here post the Super Bowl and started writing the score like what they do in their 'footy'.
i.e. It would be Stoke City @ Southampton
i.e. Back to front.
i.e. Your 2 -1 is 'correct'.
Bit like they get the bloody date base over apex too, so tomorrow would be:
Stoke City @ Southampton on 02/08/14
Bonkers.
We'll be Stoke City Spitfires (or summat) next.
Bloody Yanks
Edit: I'm going for 1 - 1 anyway so can't be wrong either way.
