On the stream that I was watching, a clear as day and very audible incident had me half chuckling and half shaking my head.
Around the 70th minute mark, Whelan lost the ball near to the dugouts. He claimed for a foul and whinged to Hughes about not getting one.
Hughes stared him straight in the face, pointed to the Sunderland goal and said "try going that way for a change" before turning to Bowen or Eddie, shaking his head and gesticulating a kind of "fuck off" gesture with his arm.
The same stream was also continually going on about Cattermole in the early stages of the game, insinuating that he had refused to play in tonights game in an attempt to force through a move to us.

We have a legacy of players who are clearly incapable of taking, understanding and carrying out basic football instruction.
The sooner these fuckers are carted out the better and we can move on as a club.

I like Whelan, thought he had another decent game tonight, but the incident was quite funny.
Who to play on Saturday? I wouldn't entertain Palacios for Saturday and would go with Cameron in midfield against Manure. His energy in midfield could help us pick up some vital points...hopefully 3 vital points.

If that's true, that's hilarious. The way Hughes wants to play its about being "brave" on the ball. I agree Whelan has been decent for us this season in the main, but I guess 7 years or so of "shape" training and safety first makes it difficult to get out of the mind set.
Saturday is a worry, what with the movement they will have between Rooney and Mata floating about all over the place. I Would be tempted to play and press higher up the pitch force them long and direct, as to who to play maybe Muniesa as it looks like he can read a game at least and thats something which would help.

I heard that too. Second half he was venturing further forward as were most but with Nzonzi on being afraid and add to that Whelan's lack of attack every week it looks like Geoff needs to get a friggen start in at CM. More ability to create than both those two.

You don't get the nickname 'the crab' for nothing. Everyone knows how Whelan plays but Hughes still put him in the first XI. Why not try Muniesa or Cameron there?.

Whelan tried a few passes forward tonight,on each occasion,it must be the first time this season he found a player in Red & White stripes.

Whelan tried a few passes forward tonight,on each occasion,it must be the first time this season he found a player in Red & White stripes. Hughes was visibly on him and Nzonzi in the first half. Hughes knows he needs a CM who can keep his head up and play through the midfield. Trust me. Soon as Nzonzi and Crouch went off and Glenn sat as the reset we looked miles better. We cant have two ball sitters in the side. Its blatantly obvious.

Have I imagined it or was Whelan an attack minded midfielder with a cracking long range shot when we first got him?

The fucker who wants carting out is the manager, the architect of mind numbingly boring overpassing football. mind numbingly boring overpassing???? Did you watch last nights game? Mind numbingly boring overpassing it certainly was not! We retained possession and created some fantastic chances. Only our inability to score and the keepers great game stopped us from demolishing them!
