If so, lump on before the Sunderland game because defeat would cut the odds, currently about 11/2.
How I view it is, stay up and you don't mind your bet losing, but if the worst happens you have a bit of a sweetener. You can always invest your money into the club by paying for merchandise or tickets if you feel guilty.
No room for sentiment in gambling, at the moment it's buying money.

You could always cover your odds and have the same amount on any of the bottom ten or eleven teams.

I'm on at 8s. It was a ludicrous price before the Palace game and I will lay off as soon as we hit 3/1 and guarantee myself 30 quid.

No. Wasted fucking money. Jesus wept. Depends which way you look at. I think there is more than an 11% chance of us getting relegated so 8s is a good price. I only backed it to lay off again after this current run of fixtures as I thought it would at least half in price. It's not often that you feel you have an edge over the bookies but I thought that price was way out of line. If we go on to win our next three games I will wave off my 25 notes with a very happy heart.

I don't bet and I wouldn't bet against Stoke but........you can see it happening can't you? If both us and Palace go down we will be able to continue the "Would Pulis have kept us up?" argument going forever with the Rimmers saying we had a better squad and the PHW's saying he couldn't keep Palace up even though they beat us.
It's never going to end is it..................................

Honestly I am worried. Looking at how shit we have been away from home, the fact that we have NO quality or pace in the final third and we are leaking goals left, right and fucking centre, plus the fact that we have still got to play Manure, Arsenic and Spurs at home, plus Chelski and Man Shitty (hopefully we wont lose by more than 3 or 4 there) away, i am worried that we are not going to pick up too many points between now and the end of the season. Best case scenario is if Scumdiff, Wet Sham, Pulace, Scumderland and Fulham just fucking implode big time. If those sides keep picking up the points, we are right in the fucking shit.

If we don't strengthen the team this week then I feel we are in massive danger. We look toothless, we've got no fight no passion and no pace. Our away form is pathetic and considering we've still got go Cardiff Sunderland west brom Norwich villa, them games are the ones that can really drag you into it. The home games aren't too kind either with utd, arsenal, spurs, Newcastle all to come the Brit. The club needs a lift and this week is massive for us. If we can get a win at Sunderland and bring in a couple we could kick on. But a loss and failure to bring players in and were in trouble

I'd feel guilty spending the winnings if it happened.

Already have, I got 7/1 in November. I put £25 on which was matched by Coral, £50 at 7's = almost a free season ticket if we drop, no brainer really if you can afford the £25. As Momo says though, I would gladly wave it goodbye to stay up. Had a look last night and 10/11 is available not to be relegated for those who are feeling confident.

I'd feel guilty spending the winnings if it happened. If it did happen, would the club feel guilty for charging you to watch it happen?? I doubt it mate.

Depressing reading - don't blame folks for seeing an opportunity to make a few bob but it feels like some are already resigned to failure.
Come on Stoke, give us some hope before Friday's deadline...

It was commonplace years ago for football clubs to bet on themselves to fail as an insurance policy. No shame in it. If anyone thinks £25 is more important to me than Stoke going down they're puddled. You could argue is that your knowledge of your own team and its specific weaknesses and strengths are the only games you should bet on. They are the only games you are really punting with the bookies on vaguely level terms.

Indeed. I cannot ever bet on Stoke to lose, let alone get relegated. However, bookies love people like me! I hope the doubters get burned again.

I'd feel guilty spending the winnings if it happened. Spend it on the club (or the train fare to Blackburn), that's what I'll do if the worst happens. I call it 'insurance betting'- betting against a team you support to cushion the blow of defeat. If my team wins, I aren't fussed about the bet losing. I'm always betting against England's rugby team (less chance of draws screwing you up in rugby).
