Never thought I would say this. But I would rather keep Glenn.

Out of the 2 , I'd prefer to keep Whelan... I don't think Cattermole is a step in the right direction.

I don't think Cattermole will come, he's on his way to Wembley.

Why would we sell our third best player this season to a relegation rival?

We won't sign Cattermole anyhow.
Im not ITK, but I do know that this won't happen.

If you read the story, it seems pure speculation - all "could" this and "could" that.

Why would we sell our third best player this season to a relegation rival? Really....? I've never been a Whelan fan, and will hold my hands up and say he has been much improved in the last few games... But I must be watching different games if he's been 3rd best.. Assuming Bego was one above him, who was the other out of interest?

£30,000 a week. Not a bad life is it?
There's no mention of a fee but presumably we'd want about £4m? International, established Prem player, good injury record, over a year on the contract...

Why would we sell our third best player this season to a relegation rival? Begovic Cameron Shawcross Agreed, I wouldn't sell Ryan.

I'm not one to deride Whelan he does a steady job but he's just one of those players who I just can't see anything he's particularly good at. Personally think you need better if you're going to try to play football in this league.

Geoff 'can't defend, not especially good in attack, but reasonably steady running with the ball' barely scrapes into the top 10. Actually, if I could be bothered to think up a top ten he might not feature at all. As I'm sure you know, the top three features Begovic and Shawcross (whose performances haven't slipped this season despite often doing the work of four defenders while being umshielded by the likes of Palacios and N'Zonzi), with Whelan coming in a distant third but ahead of most of the rest of the pack.

We all do watch different games though don't we.
I like Whelan....my wife hates him and think he's wank.
I'll be amazed if we sell him mind.

Keep Whelan, ship out Edu and Ness! i think all three of them may go (if we can actually get rid of edu and ness to someone).....we can't have N'Zonzi, Adam, Ireland, Palacios, Whelan and Cattermole and think we can keep them all happy, something/someone's gotta give!

Whelan is going through his usual once a season good spell, but ultimately if we wish to progress in this league we need to move on from the likes of Whelan & Walters, who are willing workers but have very limited ability.
If replacements are being lined up, then it is time to get rid.

Personally think you need better if you're going to try to play football in this league. Spot on mate, we need much better. Bego, Cameron and Ryan have all been easily better. Then there's Adam and Assaidi that rank above him too. Plus Huth, Crouch and even NZonzi (yes he's been poor of late but overall he's reached levels Glennda can only dream of). At his worst, Glenn is garbage and has no impact. At his best, he's bang average and still struggles to make an impact. Our third best player this Season? I'd have Guidetti above him

I can,t see a player like Cattermole making that much of a difference, even if we did sign him.

Apart from the fact he tries hard and sticks to his instructions I'm lost as to what his assets are. He has no great eye for a pass is not a great tackler, doesn't score or assist, has no great physical presence, is not fast. We have mainly flawed players but the ones we're seeing on a regular basis you can pick out some area where there strengths lie. What are Whelan's strengths apart from being a good lad.

Sadly Glen for me falls into the same bracket as SJW as someone who is probably a model professional behind the scenes... Works his socks off in training... And does whatever the manager asks without question..... As a result... They get a lot of game time... But sadly don't have the quality to regularly produce on a Saturday afternoon

I just think he's a good all round player who gives his all in every game. He can pass, he can tackle, keeps his position well and has an understanding of what is required in certain games ie a good footballing brain.
He has shown that he can be part of a quality Stoke team.
I think we would struggle to get someone as good for the money we are talking about.
I think a lot of our players are talked down too much (and I'm as guilty as the next man) when I think they've been let down more by the club and managers since January last year.

We have others (Edu and Palacios) who need fooking off first.
Even if someone like Cattermole signs, he's a good squad player to have and has been playing well recently anyway.

He keeps it simple, wins the ball back and has helped cover the gaping hole between our midfield and defence that was leaving us exposed in the early weeks. He fits our system and is best at the job.

If the manager thinks he can do without the likes of Walters and Whelan then so be it but I personally think we have been better with them than without them this year.
If he lets them go then I just hope he's sure he is bringing better in.
