On Sunday one of the live TV games will be that 'mouthwatering, tie of the round' match of Manure at home to feckin Swansea. This game will be the 42nd CONSECUTIVE FA cup tie that Manure have had screened live!! Quite amazing. Yes I know for TV companies its all about advertising revenue and viewing figures, but someone, maybe even the FA, should be ensuring smaller clubs get some TV airtime. Still I suppose Manure are 'everybody's favourite second team' someone remind me which media fuckwit coined that phrase a while ago? Was it Chapman off the BBC? Anyhow the media love in with the shit seemingly knows no boundaries

I remember Trevor Brooking saying that on MOTD a couple of decades ago. As mad then as it is now and shows how much they understand the public they serve !

Possibly true back when Busby was in charge but that was a long time ago. An update would be the team that most reals upporters hate.

Out of five FA cup ties being televised, the matches involve 7 teams from the Premier League and 3 from the Championship. Surely Rochdale V Leeds is what the third round is about?
Magic of the cup, my arse.

Yep, in premier leg titles, but on the European stage, where they play big clubs, arn't the armbiters more successful. What we mean is that fat lazy glory hunters can slouch on the armchair or pub seat & never venture to a football ground. By watching the shit, we are buying into the shit brand that they are the most successful English football club. At the mo' they could represent us at diving!

Its as good long while since the BBC had any influence on this isnt it? ITV/Sky/BT/ESPN interested in one thing only ...... advertising revenue.

I sympathise with you but regrettably it is the case that many shameless individuals around the country support ManU. It has been my experience that for example that a colleague who worked near Scunthorpe, who worked in a senior position would proudly proclaim his team were the reds. I can only deduce he like to be considered a winner by association.
Poor sod

I'm wondering why they're showing them at all really as the Shit really are shit at the moment. And it may be the case that TV companies are showing them nowadays for the embarrassment to Man Ure when the keep getting beaten lol

It doesn't surprise me or bother me, its all about the money and if Man U bring in the most viewers it makes sense, I'd probably think them thick if they didn't show them when they have the chance.

Isn't the main point that for the 42nd consecutive time, they're coining in the TV royalties. Still I'm sure the FA will make sure it all evens itself out one day.

It's all about viewing figures
5 years ago ?....TV had Burton ( who were non league ) v Man Utd which was fair enough ......then inexplicably they chose Man Utd v Burton for the replay
Another one was Man Utd v Crawley at Old Trafford
Romance of the cup my arse

Media = give the majority what they want to see and hear.
Doesn't bother me. It's just business. If the company I worked for started stocking beachballs rather than computers, we'd be on ours arses.

Why people let trivial shit like this bother them I'll never know The point I am making is in the stat....42 consecutive televised cup games It's a great stat - and even when you take into account the commercial rationale that is behind it, it is still mind blowing. But it's a natural consequence of the economics of football today. The "romance of the cup" is about as real as Father Christmas, the Tooth Fairy or Jamie Ness.

Surely to goodness a good business case for the commercial television channels to potential advertisers is that a game between two non-Premier League sides can draw in more neutrals if it is presented and promoted well. Just showing Man Utd all the bloody time isn't necessarily the best business case. It's lazy programming. I for one want to watch Man Utd in the cup even less than I want to watch Chelsea or Arsenal and that's saying something.

Their last non televised game was the 3rd round v Exeter in 2005. Drew 0-0 and Man U won the televised replay.
Actually feel sorry for their (real) fans here. They are having to travel all over the country for kick off's at ludicrous times and basically never get to play at 3pm on a Saturday

Manchester United v Swansea City? Mouthwatering clash of two decidedly average mid-table Premier League teams. Should have put Port Vale v Plymouth on
