Quality footballer, but if the ref had applied his "standards" evenly, he would have been sent off too

I'd have looked as good a player as him today had I been allowed to do whatever I want and anyone that came near me sent off.
Lads overrated and a scummy person to boot.

Glenn Whelan was booked for kicking the ball away apparently.
Well, watch the incident again. Glenn either wins the ball or commits a foul in the first challenge but Cabeye comes in, goes over the top and Glenn went into the tackle with him. Clearly neither player knew that the ref had stopped the game.
Why book just one? No need to answer because we all know the answer.
The second incident was a nothing incident which alone, didn't merit a yellow card and given that he had only made 2 challenges in the game to date, it was hardly a sure fire bet for the totting up process either.
Cabeye got Whelan sent off. Simple as that. I thought exactly the same as the opening poster. My initial thought when watching the two incidents was that "this wanker would fit right in at Arsenal".
A very good observation MD.

He'd fit in well at Arsenal, bag's of talant but not enough for City Utd or Chelsea and struggles to stay on his feet. A slight breeze and he goes down.

What Cabastard did was what all foreigners do when they are being beaten: resort to any means necessary to win. They are all shameless, but that's always been the case. Still, it makes them all truly classless.

I'd agree that Pennant has a habit of going to ground quite easily but I have never seen him put as disgraceful a performance in as Cabaye did today but sadly it appears to becoming the norm nowadays,a 'win at any cost'mentality .If that is ok with you then fair enough but its not for me.The maddening thing for me is that he is a good player and has no need to do what he does, same could be said for Suarez,Januzaj and numerous other players. Its the main thing that needs stamping out in the game in my view and I know it does us no favours but I would rather us be as honest as we are now than dive and cheat like the majority of clubs in the Prem. And the comment about the ref, thats just it,they aren't doing their job properly and thats the most frustrating thing.

Cabaye bought Atkinson today The surrounding of Whelan after that second challenge and the delayed dive was a disgrace He went in on Whelan for the first booking, didn't he, Wezzer? MOTD didn't show us dominating play for the first half hour, either and hardly castigated the ref for his performance. They went to town over our bad red card against Sunderland. I think we would have won without the cards, because we were hitting them on the break.

Called that he went in on Whelan straight away mate There were just so many little things that he totally refused to punish Newcastle for .....the dive by Ben Arfa etc and he only booked Debuchy because Adam had a word Still it's Stoke City or the like so nothing will happen to Atkinson

Whelan should have gone down like a sack of spuds, as Cabaye would have done, when he went over the top on him. Then the Geordies probably, would have been crying in their beer.
