Just think what it's going to be like when we get our identity, pride and passion back? When the players start trying the sky's the limit surely?!?!?!

And only 3 points behind Southampton, who every man and his dog in the press have been wanking themselves silly over.

I feel very good about it.
Some tough games coming up, but 40 points is looking good.
That is the target isn't it?

Lets just hope we can have some consistency for the second half of the season. Something which we often failed to do under Pulis.
Couple of good signings in January and we'll be sure to have a good finish to the season and hopefully a top 10 finish.

Its all very TP isnt it! Not playing all that well for long periods, plenty of moans and groans .....oh and we're comfortably mid-table. Perhaps this is the destiny of SCFC for years to come. Could be worse!

I'm fully behind the Hughes project and well chuffed that we're 10th on 21 points.
But there is almost certainly a sharp reality check around the corner given our inability to structure play and create chances, and the calibre of our next four league opponents. We have still got a long way to go before we're safe this season, and we need to get some decent signings in. It's interesting that yesterday's victory stemmed in part at least from the 'Adam off the front man' tactic beloved of TP: didn't feel much like progress.
As I say a long way to go.

No, Momo, but at least the second half shows what we ARE capable of, as was the case with Chelsea.A couple of decent Jan signings, and with care we could maintain our present position, or be thereabouts. As long as we have no squeeky bum times,I can stand the odd crap result and game. It's a marathon remember, not a sprint, and plenty of other teams are having the same problems as us. The bottom half of the division at the moment is as unpredictable as the top half. Merry Xmas!

Am I the only one who witnessed the first half yesterday? I believe in all things equal mate That 1st half was awful but Hughes is not afraid to change it instantly What matters is looking at the whole thing after 90 minutes A great 2nd half, two goals and 3 points more than make up for a poor first half, a poor first half that the opposing team contribute 50% too, At least Hughes has the balls to completely change it when needed, not waiting till 65minutes Most of his changes are always positive, I would rather improve as the game goes on rather than start well, tail off and get nothing from a game - we have had too much of that

Amongst our peer group of clubs we are third, as there are 7 clubs we cannot realistically compete with

I like the way Hughes is going about things quietly and without a fuss. The team spirit seems excellent and the players seem to be picking up momentum goinbg into the busy xmas period. Several will be aware that new signings are imminent come January and will hopefully lay down a marker for keeping their place in the team.
A work in progress, and by no means perfect, but for me the signs are excellent.......

I said when we had 8 points that this season was all about survival (new manager, new methods and all that upheaval) and that 20 points at the turn of the year was the rough yardstick that would, could and should settle down the nervous amongst us (Yes I know, that includes me...).
At that time I couldn't honestly see us getting there and as little as a few weeks ago I would have accepted 16/17 points and hedged our bets in the second half of the season.
I'm delighted we've done it with two games to spare, and two genuine opportunities to add more points to the 21 we've gained. I think it takes us nicely into the window with, hopefully, a genuine opportunity to add to the squad with a few more of the new manager's players with an opportunity to kick right on into the second half of the season.

The difference this season is that we have a manager who understands the players that he has got. He knows the best way to play those players.
The last few seasons we have had a manager that had a system that he wanted to play. Whether he had the players to do it or not, he persisted, and failed.
Hughes has a system in mind, and we will see the team change, to fit that system.
Not blind and stubborn behaviour. I feel very optimistic.

Nobody would deny that at this point we've done very well to get to where we are and it's a massive relief to have all of those points on the board as a platform for the rest of the season. If Mark Hughes' teams really do get better in the second half of the season then we're in for a happy few months. However, we must not forget to learn from the past here.
Warning: The remainder of this post contains references to last season, but not really in comparison with this season.
Last season, we were 8th at Christmas (or was it New Year?) off the back off an unbeaten run. Despite the stats looking fairly positive, with our excellent defensive record and 11 months unbeaten at home in the league, there were plenty of concerns about the place. We weren't setting the world alight and there were obvious flaws to be addressed that we could all see. Without going into the details of what went on behind the scenes last January, it was important to invest to capitalise on our good start and we failed to do that. We all know what followed.
We cannot afford to make the same mistakes this season. Our strong position at this stage of the season cannot mask the fact that we are still lacking in key areas and need investment to ensure our safety.

I'm pretty content with the way things look at the moment.
We are a top class left winger from being a good team. (no jokes about Lenin, Stalin, etc please!)
