Crouch can't get into the box because he's the one having to come deep and link the play up because the midfield just stand there in the D by the half way line looking bemused mostly. if you want Crouch in the box then at least one of the midfielders needs to take charge and get into that position to link the play up so Crouch can push on...so far this season it's only really been when Ireland's on the pitch that that's happened (and he was well off his game last night). it basically is less to do with Crouch and more to do with static midfielders who don't get up the pitch enough to support any attack and when they do get the ball can't string even 2 passes together.
Crouch isn't and never has been the kind of player that will link the play up then sprint forward to get on the end of a cross, as Paul says he only ever works with 2 up front....that's the only way he's ever played before he came here and i'm just as bemused as Paul as to why Pulis thought bringing him here to play as a lone striker would get the same results as he's had at other clubs when he ALWAYS had a partner to play off him and support him. it was a bizarre buy in the first place IMO and one that will only ever work if he's either supported by another front man or if the CM's start pulling their finger out and doing the job that Crouch is being forced into doing at the moment just outside the centre circle. really don't see how anyone can blame Crouch at all to be honest

He's good at linking the play up but what's the point in having probably the biggest guy on the pitch nowhere near the crosses being put into the box. He can't link it up and then get in the box. We need a big powerful striker up front with a lot more pace.or someone up front with crouch.

On Saturday Ireland can't play so we'll have to adjust again with Adam probably starting. It may help us or it may hinder us. However, in the longer term, neither the little bald bloke nor the chubby Scot is the answer to the dilemma we have. We're stuck with this set up until January but I'd send Assaidi straight back and use the loan to bring better in. As for buying Ireland, I'm not convinced; I'd keep him until the end of the season and make a decision then.
