The difference was Ireland got a lot closer to crouch 2nd half and made things happen. Also not just Ireland but the whole team eventually lifted the tempo 2nd half and we looked superb in doing so.

The difference is mobility. They can both change a game on their day but Ireland gets about more.

Ireland moves the ball quicker as well. Will keep it simple but keep us moving, which is what our attacking play needs.

Ireland's mobility makes him a better player! He is much more difficult to pick up by the opponents and is miles better at defending too! Ireland every time for me! SIGN HIM UP!

As seen yesterday Ireland completely changed the game, difference in class completely Different types of player more than class; no doubt though that Ireland's game better suits the way Hughes wants to play.

Difference is that Ireland has half a clue and the positional discipline to play the way the role dictates
For me there is no place for Adam in this team or system

I like Adam but he doesn't suit the role like Ireland does, Ireland is the only midfielder who can help Crouch play well and as he's currently our best forward by a distance that's huge.
It is his mobility that makes it, not just his ability to run and his fitness but his eye for the right run and the space he can find and create, top player who's not been used properly under his last few managers. We really need to sign him, still only 27 too, if we can get him back to his best (which it looks like we might) not only can he be a quality player for us but a valuable asset too.

Ireland's general play was appalling, gave the ball away all the time and didn't make a tackle in the first half, he actually manages to get there just after the opposition have passed the ball, it's an art he has perfected. But can't take the goal away from him, a great strike. But I can't see us signing him permanently.

The difference is, Adam is a deep lying playmaker and Ireland is more of a number 10/attacking midfielder. Ireland is tailor made for that position in behind the striker, whereas Adam is better with everything in front of him. Ireland is better with the ball further up the pitch, Adam is better with it further back.

I think they are both quality
For away games when we play counter attacking then Ireland is for sure the better. although we were at home against Chelski we were playing in a counter attacking way as if we were the away side. This requires the mobility to get up and down the pitch.
Still at home games when we are looking to dominate then I think Adam can be more useful. He has the better skill to unlock a defence with a raking pass.
Adam was our best player against Cardiff and he was justified in keeping his place. Presumably now Ireland will be the starter with Adam close on his heels
Its a nice position to be in for Hughes

Both are good players who probably don't quite fit in the same team but ultimately have roles to play. For me Ireland is plan B to Adam's plan A or vice versa depending upon who the opposition are. Long term I can see Ireland getting more games but I do think Adam has plenty to offer.

Yesterday was a bit different, because an early swap was forced. But, in the normal run of things, I wonder whether Hughesy takes advantage of the main difference between the two?
Both create, but charlie would prefer to be deeper and to have more freedom to move (out wide) to ping longer passes (or make forward runs). Ireland would prefer to start further forward, link more with the striker (rather than the wingers as Charlie does) and tends to be in a more central attacking position when something looks on (Charlie tends to be further behind the play)
So does Hughesy use "the extra man in midfield" in Charlie, for the first 60 minutes and then bring on Ireland, in the last 30, with slightly more of an attacking threat?
Just a thought ... because just lately - Ireland injury excepted - Hughesy has picked Charlie over Stevie and I think there must be a reason, as it does seem obvious Ireland better suits the second striker role.
