Sitting an hour after sunset over the Adriatic an there's a single bright star a-glowing in the western sky - as bright as feck. Quick check on Google reveals no fecker seems to know .....
Is it Venus perhaps, or Cygnus or something else?
Seems to be moving from left to right and possibly getting higher over the horizon.......
Answers on a postcard please...... TIA

Get a programme called stellarium (free). Put your location in and you can do a 360 sweep of the sky from your location. It will tell you what it is. Options are Venus, Space station, Sirius, or Cygnus.

Venus and Saturn are setting in the west at that time.
They appear to move left to right but they're not it's the earth turning relative to the plane of the solar system.

Prices seem to have edged up since we were here in May probably as a result of joining the EU but still got there own currency......

Loaded stellarium - cracking app - seems to suggest Vega is the brightest ?? Sun has only just gone down and can already seen this star - if it is Vega then it's 25 light years away, which I guess is just a cockstride in stellar terms!!

I've just nipped down to the Costa del Sol, and it's definitely Venus. I've missed the Brum game to find out for you. I hope you appreciate the effort.

Thanks RBO :-) K ...and thanks for the update on the game I think I'll stay out here for a few more days, just in case any more stars come out. Oh, and it's been around 23-28 every day this week

Sounds good, I'd love to go again personally but the wife doesn't believe in going back to places we've been, she much prefers trying new places. I may use this 'philosophy' of hers to go on my own back to Thailand for a golfing holiday Prices weren't exactly cheap when we were there to be honest, not outrageous but certainly not cheap.
