This was the decision I was faced with one month ago, when a works colleague wanted final numbers to book a weekend away in Palma. Every year, a group of us at work have a weekend break away together. Last year, we chose Amsterdam, and strangely enough it was also the weekend of the Colchester match at the Brit. It was the only home match I missed last season, and I really suffered when the texts started to arrive just as we were travelling around the Amsterdam waterways on one of their infamous glass topped boats. Colchester 1, Stoke 0 (Iwelumo penalty) came the first text. Whilst colleagues were enjoying themselves on the boat trip, I was in a different world, thinking about what was happening 400 miles away at the Brit, and the first news was not good. As we all know, the result turned around in the second half, and it made the rest of that weekend a lot easier to bear. Well this year's break in this weekend in Palma. As much as I wanted to go, I could not give up the opportunity of the possibility of seeing Stoke win promotion, as I would never foregive myself. After all, I've waited 23 years for a moment like this. Accordingly, I have declined this year's trip in favour of joining my fellow stokies in a trip down to deepest Suffolk. Come on Stoke, do it.
