I handled a black pigeon a few months ago,he was brilliant. If the back door was open he would walk in have a bath in the dogs water bowl, then strutt round the place like he owned it.He'd sit on your knee at night after a fuss and if the dog come near he'd give her a right good peck on the nose, luckily the dog didnt bother.I used to take him out on my shoulder when walking the dog or take him to the Kismet to fetch a curry and leave him on the window sill outside and he'd never fly off. He's since gone missing. Can only assume a cat has had him,he's always come home at night. Miss the little bugger. Ooooo hello TWAT FACE!!!!!!

Wild pigeons are a problem. Racing birds or those with rings are well looked after and cannot be put in the same category. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a keeper of these birds, but my dad has kept and raced them for many years, so I have picked a bit up about em. If they have rings, try to track the owner, if there are no rings, feel free to do an Albert Steptoe.

They belong to someone, hence the rings. If they are rung racing pigeons then more often than not the owners dont want them back.they are'nt much of a racing pigeon if they dont return home. I've had the odd one or two turn up at my house(got an aviary full of birds) and contacted the owners from the ring details.most of the time they say keep em. True mate most of the time, but there can be times where a bird will try to shelter for weather reasons. Me old man usually took his birds back, especially if they were proven and it was a one off.

The sauce is more important than the meat mate .....He will have given it a bit of body though .... You need a good full bodied red , nice claret , Barolo or chianti will do just as well . Give Trevor the sent off he deserves Not in the curry sauce though Harry !.....In a glass and I will drink quite happily to Trev's memory ... Barolo goes better with beef than pigeon I find mate ....

Although I don't really dabble in them any more, i'm a long time admirer of good Italian reds. Barolo is extremely robust, it's a Beef Wellington followed by a Mature Stilton, double-barrelled full on 14%er! Don't mess. Chianti Classico is perhaps a better choice for a gamey Trevor. My favourite Italian is a good Valpolicella, light, fruity and drinks very well on it's own. Too well, as i've often found out.

The thing about Italian reds is to find one or two that you like and stick to them .....there are so many of them on the shelves and about 90% of them are awful....the same can be said of Spanish reds, I have recently developed an affection for Californian reds their quality is on the whole first class and it's rare that you are disappointed

Bang on the money for me that Bish with regard to Italians, there is some unpleasant stuff out there. And i've always been fairly disappointed with the odd random Spanish red i've gone for too. Overall, I think Australian and particularly New Zealand whites are perhaps the most forgiving, closely followed by the Chilleans. When we lived in Shrewsbury, Tanners Wine Merchants was on our doorstep. Set in an ancient Shrewsbury warehouse with dim lighting and creaky floorboards with rooms off here there and everywhere, it's like Fagin's den. Tanners is simply one of the the most intriguing and brilliantly stocked wholesaler/retailer spaces in the land. They are also winners of multiple awards. You can pull incredible stuff out of that place. Definitely worth a trip out from Stoke to stock up for Christmas, they always have great bin end bargains too. It's a wine lovers version of heaven, i've been known to poke around in there for over 2 hours at a time. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tanners_(company)Apologies for going a little off thread....
