For the last 8 years all we heard was, hate playing Stoke never get anything there/fans are idiots/its fucking freezing .Now we seem to be getting good reviews from the opposition, Stoke play nice slow carpet football much easier for us to compete with them instead of having lumps kicked out of us.The crowd is quite because thers no get stuck in tactics which the crowd used to like(wilkos tackels/Delaps tackle on SWP the team playing and backing one another}. We need to find a balance between our get stuck in game and this pass pass game and not get anywhere. I know its early doors but I think we need to get back to what we were good at and then add the passing to our game. Even Bego as said we need to start defending as a team again, all good sides have the best defensive records. As we can not score goals we need to tighten up until January.

Dunner fret. It's just a passing phase we're going through.

One of the old sayings in football is that you have to out battle the opposition first and earn the right to play your football.

Whatever happened to the group hug, so pivotal in our scrap for survival last season.

I don't buy that we've lost it. It was there in spades at West Ham.

I think it's been gradually happening for a couple of years. We have lost a host of characters and whilst their replacements might be better footballers, I'm not sure they're better men.

That comes with buying bigger names with bigger egos mate Nothing anybody can do anything about it as those players are needed

I'm pretty definite that they're better men , man for man , than the Arsenal team though, yet Arsenal are quite definitely a better football team. Conversion to playing more skillful football will lead us through some ups and downs but hopefully we are just in transition right now and better results are in the pipeline.

Maybe it's misty sepia tinted memories but it seemed to mean much more to the class of 2008-09 and 09/10 etc than it has over the last couple of years and that's started to manifest itself in the stands as well.

Top five in terms of away performances since promotion.

I didn't think Whelan and Wilson looked very nice at the weekend. Huth and Shawcross havn't lost any steel, the goals against Palace were fine examples of their collective grit. {I always think that I should type HUTH's name in capitals, he's immense. I was disappointed with Pieters on sat. Let the side down as they say.
I thought that last year with the signings of N'Zonzi and Adam particularly, there was a shift towards football which involved the midfield as opposed to bypassing it. At the same time, key characters had moved on but I also thought teams were intent on getting a bit of payback almost: N'Zonzi and Crouchie got beat up, Fellaini mauled Ryan, Huth got suspended for retaliating all before xmas.. we got knocked about while we tried to knock it about more. The last few games of last season I thought the grit had returned to the side, they'd looked for a while like they'd never been on the same pitch before. With more passing and possession in theory there should be fewer 50/50 scraps, without a big throw-in it becomes less gung ho. The football should look less frantic and ugly. {I like a bit of ugly.~}
I was pondering whether the new, more attacking set up was the reason for the perceived leakiness, an inevitable consequence of dropping the defensive plan. The flying wing backs carry the risk of exposure. But thinking about it a lot of these recent goals have been gifts. Which isn't new: Walters vs Chelsea, we went through a run when we scored more own goals than the opposition scored against us. And then there's the 'own' defence splitting passes: Whelan at Newcastle, Adam... etc. It is all part of the beautiful game, but recently we do seem to have been exceptionally good at shooting ourselves in the foot. I don't know if there is a remedy for that..
I do think there is a more thoughtful approach that brings with it some hesitation, and at times looks fragmented. I'm hoping they'll start to ' click'. We've still got a squad of robust characters, once they get more intuitive things will improve. I hope the International break helps. The late transfer window and the team rotation etc means it's too soon to be expecting too much. I thought the corners and set pieces were more purposeful against Fulham. A few wins will give us a cocky swagger.

The Brit doesn't have that electric atmosphere it had in our first season in the Prem. As fans, we didn't really expect to win, and were happy to get behind the players, who gave everything they had.
If all of our players, especially the likes of N'Zonzi, Crouch and Jones, showed the same commitment, the Brit atmosphere would become a nightmare for visiting teams again.

Think we have lost some of the "hardness" and passion, on and off the field. It's a two way street, we need to become as one again on and off the pitch or it's going to be a long winter
