for season 2012/13 have been published this morning. They are 4% up on the previous season but that was an extraordinary 23% down on the year before that, so last season was the 2nd best on record. In fact, it was the first season that the British Transport Police figures have been included in full, so I suspect that, like with like, last season may well have been the lowest yet. Overall, just 1 arrest per 14,000 spectators. 32 Stoke supporters were arrested ( 8 at home; 24 away) which is 11= in the PL. Comfortably mid-table. On banning orders, we have 26 in place, with only Fulham, Norwich and the Baggies in the PL having a lower total, so it's fair to say that our days of being a leader in the "hooligan league" are now well and truly behind us These are arrests, not disposals. The number of convictions will of course be lower.

More Arsenal fans were arrested than ours? But I thought we were the Neanderthal thugs?

Does it say anywhere what the percentage of arrests there are to number of fans attending a game, e.g. 50 arrests to 500,000 attendances home and away. This would be a fairer league table rather than total number of arrests only. Grimsby look pwopa nawty

Grimsby look pwopa nawty That's obviously a fair point - but to do it you would need to know the away attendances for each club, and to the best of my knowledge that isn't published. You could get pretty close to it for home arrests from the home attendances by deducting an estimate - say 2k - for the away attendance. Requires a lot of arithmetic though - the Home Office don't do it.

What a sensationalist headline this is! The press seem determined to whip up a frenzy about statistics which, as Malcolm says in the article, are not really a cause for alarm. The British press gets on my tits sometimes! Mirror over reaction?

Within the next 5 years , the only hooligans you will hear getting arrested will be Barristers and Solicitors brawling after drinks were spilled in the private boxes.... Hooligans will be well and truly 'priced out of the market'....if not already. Westlands 5 Chell Heath 0

The headline is awful, but the picture is even worse - it isn't even taken in England I will ask our press officer to take it up with the Mirror which is usually quite good
