So now the myth has been burst - Walters was substituted but were we more exposed than before after losing his wonderful defending abilities ? Not at all IMO. That means he doesn't need to be the first name on the team sheet week in week out. Hughes take the plunge don't start with Walters in the next game. Lets see how it goes - can't be crappier than today can it ?

I was just about to start a Walters thread but not one of this nature.
I can't stand the bloke and am heartily pissed off with watching his headless chicken act out wide, but having thought long and hard about how we find some threat in the final third and some goals to give us a platform to build on, I would be more than tempted to play Walters in that central role.
He carries some aerial threat. He has some mobility. He has nuisance value. If he played up front, the opposition centre halves would at least know they had been in a game.
KJ was absolutely toss today. It was infuriating watching him be bullied by shit like Turner but when Crouch came on he was even worse, if that is remotely possible.
Today's result was inevitable. A team struggling on the road with a manager under pressure and desperate for a result. I knew what was going to happen and it duly did.
Something has to be done about our forward line ASAP.
Get Palacios and Ireland into the midfield, replacing Wilson and Adam and fuck Crouch and Jones off once and for all. Both of them are absolutely toss.

And I think he is a Championship player at best. But our other two strikers really don't deserve to play at the moment. Even Alabi, who I like but doesn't look ready came into my thoughts. It's pretty desperate.

Without a better option and having loaned one headless chicken out I think Walters may be a useful stop gap. If Jones had half his tenacity then we wouldn't have any problem.

Picking out Walters in today's shambles just reeks of agenda. In the first half every player was terrible and I would say Walters contributed slightly more than some of the others.
He's a player who gives 100% and generally does what's asked from him. Hes not an out and out striker who will score lots of goals but he offers more in other areas and both Hughes and Pulis see something they like in him.
I've got no problem in him being dropped. But I don't like him constantly being berated when he his performing a role that's being asked of him.
Give it a rest.

Give it a rest????? When it is painfully obvious that a player ain't good enough for two years I believe we are allowed to be pissed off! Give it a rest???????? Walters is probably a good lad but is not good enough to play for a premier league team

Walters is far from anonymous. He's in fact very noticeable, mostly by his complete WANKNESS as a PL footballer.
Rarely plays the ball and concentrates on the man, gives away ridiculous free kicks, has no awareness on the pitch and has the technical ability of Vinny Jones.
He either trains like Pele or has photos on managers. I fucking despair when I see this bloke play.
Some idiot is talking about agendas, yes I have one - to rid SCFC of mediocrity.

What about Waring? Are we desperate enough to throw in a raw youngster?
I have defended KJ as much as I possibly can but today was the last straw for me. He had little or no service for sure, but he did fuck all to help himself and he let shit like Turner just ride rough shod over him.
I like to think I'm a nice guy and I'm led to believe that KJ is a nice guy as well but when I played football, I was a horrible, nasty bastard and if I had a physique like KJ, I would batter every centre half I came across regardless of how badly I played overall.
Those two centre halves today didn't even know they were in a game and after all his media bleatings this week, to then turn in a performance like that, was pretty scandalous.
I'm sick of the lot of them to be honest because when Crouch came on, he was abject as well.
I would give Walters a go through the middle next week and flank him with Arnie and Assaidi, or if he's fit, Etherington. If that fails, and I suspect that it probably would because Walters is wankness personified, then I would be more than tempted to throw in a raw, scared of nothing, youngster who would be absolutely busting his arse to play.

Good post Dave and Crouch was pretty much the straw that snapped me this afternoon. If a player could pretty much stick two fingers up to the club and say "Hey fcukers, guess what? I don't want to play for your shitty little club any more" it was Crouch this afternoon with his unforgivable appearance. Every single player on the park has no excuse this season. A positive manager who wants to play positive football and are encouraged to use the ball and pass the ball and they dish up that turgid brand of direball? They want their bloody wages stopping.

I couldn't comment as I haven't seen him play. I was just throwing something out there.
He can't be as slow as Crouch and he has been a regular. He can't be as slow as a "can't be arsed" KJ either can he?
If he is, we might as well release him now!

It won't be long before debates about how wank Walters is are a thing of the past. Two more transfer windows to go and the majority of the deadwood accumulated by the previous manager will be gone.

Neither him or Alabi are really ready either but as much as I'm trying to write today off as one of those things, the strikers did really worry me today. So much so that like You Walters and the U-21 strikers don't see like that bad of an option.

Something has to be done about our forward line ASAP. As much as I dislike/ don't rate Walters as a footballer, I'd tend to agree that he's probably going to be a better bet than either KJ or PC up top. Either him, or Arnautovic. Kenwyne I've seen enough of. For a strapping 6'5" man-mountain, he's an absolute fanny. Constantly getting knocked about, moaning, second to the ball. He should be beasting Centre Halves. But he has no balls. Crouch is the most piss-weak excuse for a footballer I have seen. No pace, no physicality, no nothing. If I had to take one or the other, I'd go with Kenwyne but either way, we have no goals in us. Time for Plan B/C. I agree with your reasoning behind having Walters in there. One major thing that worries me is his chances-to-goals ratio. He would potentially have more even opportunities to fuck up.

My main worry is that I've seen this too often.
We have started the season well, haven't picked up the points that our play has deserved and now individual errors are costing us points and before long, we are in a rut that we can't get out of.
The hard facts are that in both good performances and bad performances, we just don't look like we've got a goal in us. We can't get the ball to our better players (Ireland and Arnie) often enough and when we attack, we can't pass it particularly well a) because their is sod all movement from our woefully abject forward players and b) because we aren't filling the box with more than one player at a time despite our managers more ambitious approach.
That is my worry and I am sick to my back teeth of certain players. Walters barely did a thing right again. Wilson started slowly against Man City and recovered but today played 90 minutes the way he played the first 15 against Man City. Adam was woeful, again, and I'm struggling to think of a game when he last looked decent. Maybe Wigan away on his debut? KJ was dire and Crouch was even worse. Arnie just drifted in and out of the game and spent as much time moaning and whinging to himself about his teammates than he did trying to make something happen.
Cameron can't cross a ball for toffee, Pennant has absolutely no ability to go past a player and to all intents and purposes Etherington is a busted flush. We have doubts about Palacios' ability to last 90 minutes and we are hoping that Ireland can be the player he was at Man City once more.
I admire the way we have gone about things but when something isn't working, it isn't working. KJ isn't the answer, nor is Crouch. Walters is unlikely to be the answer but could be the best of a bad bunch. Marc Wilson's brain is slow and his feet are even slower. Adam's waist line is as wide as his so-called passing range.
The signs were there against Tranmere and they were there again today. Can we get through to January? God only knows but it is hard to be positive after sitting through that.
The only thing that encouraged me was that Mark Hughes offered no excuses and accepted that we weren't good enough. Somehow, we need to offload much of the shit that TP has gathered up on big money and get Mark Hughes some kind of budget to completely overhaul our forward options.

Someone sitting by us said that we were being 'closed down' by their midfield and forwards and that was the root cause of our problems. I'm not so sure....
Wilson had the worst half of football I have seen anyone in a Stoke midfield for years. I cannot remember another performance from anyone that was so inept.
Adam, well we need to park that one up and hope that Holloway still has a hard-on for him and get rid in January. Games just pass him by, and he almost seems to want to make up for endless minutes of wandering around the midfield by trying some preposterous pass when he does get the ball. They were knocking triangles around him at times today, it was like watching one of those 'hunter' training drills, totally embarrassing. I am still trying to fathom what that ball was that he played today from the right-side, whether it was a piss-poor attempt at switching play, or a shot at goal from 70 yards.
N'Zonzi was poor as well today, and in essence we played at times without a midfield of note; I even thought that Whelan might be an option at one stage it was so bad.
Add that to the poor forward line and it's ever likely we looked toss.
