Used to enjoy this but problem is it will dominate weekend evening TV for hours on end showing them practicing, falling over, the city they come from etc etc etc. it's very boring now. This will be right through to Christmas alongside xfactor then dancing on ice and britains got talent takes over til Easter.

Harry, I see your point BUT I admit to a fatalistic liking for SCD. I can only put it down to the scantily clad assorted lasses that have graced the TV these past years. I'd love to offer a far deeper reason but I can only get down to basics as far as this is concerned.

Now, this is something that has me totally baffled and yet very concerned about the state of the UK's mental health. Although i've never actually seen it, and there'd have to be an astonishingly good reason for me to even attempt that, I understand that it's presented by a corpse-like octogenarian that every week encourages a gaggle of less than minor celebrity pillocks to prance round the place like peacocks.
This is the same show that is responsible for resurrecting the post cricketing career of that turnip Darren Gough and for the unfathomable re-invention of Robbie Savage as some sort of flashy football pundit. What an absolute load of shite. Why has the UK gone nuts about this TV show? Is life in the UK so utterly, utterly tedious and mind-numbingly flat that a programme like this is now regarded as entertainment? If you'll watch that then you'll watch absolutely anything.
Life is very short, it's incredibly precious and it's over in the blink of an eye. If there is a God, i'm sure he wouldn't have gone to all the trouble of creating the earth, man, the heaven's all the creatures and continents, not to mention the universe only to witness, in abject disbelief, millions of his subjects in the UK deriving some sort of pleasure from something so insignificant, vacuous and utterly worthless. If you must watch it, then do so. But please, don't encourage your kids to join in with the TV morphine as well.

I'm sorry Sunflower but i honestly don't get it. I realise i'm in the minority here too, but surely there are better ways to entertain the family than by watching this never ending conveyor belt of celebrity amoeba's jump aboard the "emotional rollercoaster" of a TV dancing competition, whilst trying to grab as much exposure for themselves as possible. I despise the celebrity culture that's now running completely out of control in England. It's really unhealthy, and it's totally worthless.

If we were talking about The Iliad by Homer or Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice then you would definitely have a point. But we're talking about trash TV aren't we? So, besides the wobbling arse of Susanna Reid as Harry mentioned upthread, is there some sort of deeper complexity or a parallel subplot going on? No, didn't think so. So why do I need to see it?

No, it's the fact that an alarming number of folks in the UK are fawning over any old crap TV, as long as it contains the magical "celebrity" guest element in the format. I may be wrong, but I think that Strictly is currently at the top of that particular dung heap? I can't bring myself to be distracted or engaged by anything that promotes this pathetic celebrity culture any further, whether they're making you laugh by making fools of themselves, impressing people, crying, laughing, getting angry, whatever it is these f*****rs get up to - i'm totally disinterested. It makes me despair to think that some folks i know back home, even arrange their weekends round the bloody thing. Looking on from afar, it often seems like the whole country has been suffering with a "celebrity virus" of some description for the last 6 or 7 years. If this is what is now classed as "entertainment", it really doesn't bode well for the future of our nation. Pulp TV. The BBC needs to have a rethink.

There's even a show on every weeknight talking about it. How much is there to say about sequins and falling over? Stick a decent quiz on instead. Preferably hosted by Victoria Coren.

I like strictly it makes a nice change seeing our team at the top, Well done Abbey especially when her husband couldn't score on a Thursday night in Queens.
Nice to see women dressed as women for a change, I watch with my grand daughter she loves the dresses and the dancing and I always was a tart on the dance floor as many will testify.

I'd take a good quiz over dancing morons in sequins, any day of the week. In fact, I really enjoy watching Eggheads and Pointless if i'm back home and it happens to be on. These shows always get seem to get everyone involved and thinking, sometimes it gets a little bit competitive! Good TV. Watching Strictly is simply the TV equivalent of reading Hello. And that's a total waste of time.
