A14 is a pretty crappy road from what I can remember - lots of speed cameras and roundabouts
Any away friendly pubs around layer road?

A14, M11 get off at Stanstead and follow the signs for Colchester.
There are only about 4 roundabouts on the A14. Plus you will miss the road works at the M25 M1 junction.

A50, M1, A14 to Ipswich, A12 to Colchester a few country pubs in the villages around the A12, there's a couple of pubs on the north road into colchester off the A12 the A1232, ones a travel inn/beefeater, also if you head into Colchester you hit the A133 turn right (not to Clacton which is left) at it's junction with the A134 there is a big pub that does meals, also macdonalds along that road. If parking and going in the town there is some "chain" pubs at the top end of the high street and also opposite next to the cinema i can't remember what they are called THOUGH.

Drury wasn't too bad last time, took a few mins to get served but was full of stoke and colchester so to be expected. Plenty of space outside as long as it's not raining. Takes about 20 mins to walk down to the town, so unless the coaches get there really early then wouldn't bother. The drury is on the way to town though so you can go in there and if it's ridiculously full then keep walking.

Might be a silly question, given what ive heard about the state of the bogs at Layer Rd, but does anyone know if there is a bar inside the ground?

be warned the A14 from huntingdon to cambridge is now an AVERAGE SPEED CAMERA zone for its whole length , the speed limit is 70mph . sit doing this and you will be fine . I sit at 69-70 according to my sat nav as its more accurate and I am usually the fastest that road by a few mph as every else sits at 70 on the speedo which is more like 65 in real life
