Ireland did nothing to convince me he is worth a start today! H Really ?! I thought he looked good, better than Adam. What did you think he did well and does that mean he's what we need?

I thought he held the ball well, looked to go forward with it and didn't give it away needlessly. Adam looked a bit cumbersome. Not saying he's the be all and end all but he just looked better than Adam today in his cameo role.

we will have to gamble a bit more agianst weaker teams with our third midfielder. I think Arny would be worth a try or Walters with space for naother winger. Adam doesn't support the main striker enough and can't run beyond. N'Zonzi and Wilson (or Wilson P base don his cameo today) should be enough to cope with most weaker teams

Not saying he's the be all and end all but he just looked better than Adam today in his cameo role. I thought he did the little passes well and was moving around looking to get the ball. Looked more mobile than Adam and since Adam had a shocker I'd say Ireland was a bit better today. But I remember him losing it a couple of times when he tried to do something more than a short nothing pass, and once when he was passing to a defender and put us in real trouble. So I totally agree he ain't the be all and end all, and he needs more game time but if he doesn't improve then I reckon we have to look elsewhere. That sort of performance is fine for someone playing the 'Wilson role' of tidying everything up and laying it off, but I reckon we really need a player to link up with the forwards. Adam's had some good games like that, but when he's off form we need another option and based on Palacios' willingness to get forwards today, maybe he wouldn't be a worse choice than Ireland?

I don't think it was an off day and the only thing we have to complain about is individual errors costing us a 1-0 win. Sadly the individual errors were multiple errors committed by the same players.
Adam's foul on the first goal was plain stupid. Begovic didn't cover himself in glory and Walters looked like the slow in mind and foot footballer that he really is. He hasn't reacted to the rebound yet.
The second goal was shit defending completely but what the hell Walters was doing, god only knows and again, Begovic didn't really cover himself in glory.
The third goal was as ridiculous a foul by Walters as the one by Adam for the first and he compounded his error with some shit defending on the set piece. Just what he was hoping to achieve with the position he took up god only knows and Begovic didn't help matters by taking a step forward in an attempt to stop a looping header.
Begovic's off day is forgivable but Walters and Adam merely continued their form of the season to date.
Outside of those individual errors, we played well for long parts of the game. We are a real centre forward threat from being a very good team. Two of their 3 goals came totally against the run of play and as daft as it sounds, in open play, they were no better than us. To concede 3 goals, courtesy of individual errors from set-pieces, against them of all teams, is just plain soft really.
We lost but for once, at least we died trying. I was pleased with much of what I watched and furious with Adam and Walters, as I seemingly am every week. Both of them are hopeless.

Certainly able to take positives from today. We made chances and on another day we wouldn't have conceded those sloppy goals.
Maybe we should consider a man on the far post though.

Can Arnautovic play where Adam plays? Or is that role more likely going go to whelan?

Overall things are better than they have been for several seasons and we were very good in parts today but there are some individual recurring poor performances that are happening far too often for my liking.

The recurring poor performances are my only real worry to what has otherwise been a very promising start to the season.
Walters and Adam now have to make way for our new signings because they are both costing us at both ends of the pitch.
We are singing from the same hymn sheet on this one Paul. I am pretty sure that Hughes has plans to displace Adam and I hope now, having seen Walters at his usual level, that he also has plans to replace him somehow with what we have available.

Thought we did well in possession today. However, I'm an Adam fan but he was hopeless today along with Jones.
Thought Cameron was outstanding and Arnie looked pretty positive.
Ireland also seemed pretty lively when he came on. 2 changes for next week for me...Ireland for Adam and Walters for Pennant or Assaidi. Wouldn't it be great to see Walters on the bench for a change? No need to play him next week given the opposition and the fact that we should be looking to take the game to them and score goals.
That said I definitely like what Hughes is doing with the club.

Indeed Rossi.
I can't think of one single legitimate reason to start Walters at home to Norwich.

Begovic Cameron - Huth - Shawcross - Pieters Wilson Pennant - Ireland - N'Zonzi - Arnie Jones
Then when we have the ball move to a 433.

Lets not forget it was Arsenal away. We will not win or draw every game. Players will have off days we just need to make sure it doesn't become a habit. With the likes of Ireland, Arno, Palacios, Assaidi and Shea still finding fitness we will get better. So far we've played Liverpool away, Man city H and Arsenal A in our first 5 games and we have 7 pts I'd have snapped anyone's hands off if iD been offered that at the start of the season. We need to bounce back next week but let's not panic yet.

Like you say in the first 5 games we have played possibly 3 of the top 5 and 2 of them being away from home. Also going to West Ham is no easy place. Compared to some of those teams below us we've had a hard run in.

We were well in the game today but crazy defending from Walters mainly cost us dear.
He really is costing us and the two sitters he missed last week and the pen at Liverpool we could of taken that defeat today on the chin cuz we did play well and be on 10 points but because of that waster we are on 7.
Walters out

An off day for bego and the defence, we need to get the striker sorted, stick Arnie up front with KJ and give Pennant a start against a lesser team, maybe against tranmere and see what happens. I can see Arnie picking up the pieces and creating havoc, maybe winning a few free kicks or pens, let Pennant take them. Walters gives 110 percent every game but unfortunately he's only championship class therefore performing at about 75 percent of a decent premiership player, so I'd leave him out.

Surprised that so many people think Kenwyne had a poor game. I thought he battled well against a strong defence and made some good runs that weren't picked out. Walters and Adam were the clear weak links.
