Back 7 seems to pick itself pretty much, but the other 4 seem uncallable?
Ireland - talk of a slight ankle injury but I think Hughes will look to chuck him in as soon as he can.
Adam - slight back injury? Looks like him or Ireland going forward from here. And with the history between Hughes and him, you'd have to favour Ireland to nose ahead over time.
Arnie -probably the first time he'll have met the players tomorrow. Bench on Saturday, but shoo-in thereafter?
Jones or Crouch? If Ken's fit, surely it's his place to lose?
Assaisi seems to have had a decent pre-season at Liverpool and figured quite a bit. Been in full training with us for a fortnight. Surely it's time to chuck him in from the off? Although Pennant will be buzzing and Ethers looked reasonable by his standards at West Ham.
Nice to have options at least.

The options aren't quite there yet though Grapey are they, for all of the reasons you allude to? Ireland hasn't played any meaningful competitive football for ages and he's a new boy. Arnie has yet to train with us or meet his team mates. Assaidi actually has a few more miles under his belt what with his Walsall appearance and an impressive showing with the under 21s. Will he start? My guess is Ethers, Jones (I'm sure he'll be fit) and Walters to begin and then surely we'd look to blood Assaidi. I get the feeling Arnie won't feature. Palcios seemingly fit gives us another option off the bench for midfield but once again, I can't see the changes being made just yet. Wilson, N'Zonzi and Adam to start if fit with Palacios to come on for Adam at some stage. I think we have a while to wait until the 'A' team is revealed. We all need to be patient.

Yeah - I think you're right, Jim. It may well be the same team as West Ham (fitness permitting) - with a pretty eye-catching bench.
Still think Assaidi may have a chance.

Let's hope so as far as Oussama is concerned. Surely he's marked down to replace Etherington asap, in fact from 60 minutes onwards against City. I look forward to our first game with Assaidi, Jones and Arnautovic leading the way backed up by a midfield that will offer us the possibilities of Ireland and Palacios too. What a prospect

He may lack sheer pace but he keeps hold of the ball well and distributes it effectively which is what you need later in the game.

It'll be interesting to see if there are any Championship(?) takers for Brek Shea until Christmas.

Oh agreed but I think he could be an option to start on Saturday and if Hughes picks players based on form then he could get some decent game time his return form though is exactly what we need to make sure the other wingers follow suit.

Could really open the door for Assaidi then.
I do wonder what the plan is for Shea.
In the short-term, hard to see him getting on the pitch.
3-month loan (is there a recall after the first month?) could be just what the doctor ordered if he could get regular starts somewhere.

If they are all fit and healthy, we will start with the same 11 that started at West Ham I would have thought.
If Etherington is injured, maybe Pennant will get the nod to start. He did replace Etherington afterall, and not Assaidi.

Got to say I agree that with fitness permitting we will see the same starting 11 that played against West Ham. Imo thats the least those boys deserve after an excellent away performance and if Hughes continues to pick players on their merits then keep a winning team!!

But we won the game ultimately thanks to Pennant so surely if we are picking players on merit then Etherington or Walters should be dropped to accommodate JP in the starting xi.

He did replace Etherington afterall, and not Assaidi. You are probably right, Dave, although Assaidi is supposed to have had a blinder in the u-21 match he started. With another 10 days of training with us under his belt, is he ready for a start, especially at home? Ireland's fitness will now have been assessed as well, but a bench spot is most likely for him. Arnie has been away most of the time since he signed, so I can't see him being thrown in from the start. Assaidi for Etherington the only change for me.

I'm looking forward to seeing what he goes with Jezza for sure. If he wants Assaidi in the side, and Etherington is fit, I would go with Assaidi in place of Walters rather than Matty. I think Matty has started the season pretty well.
Can't wait for the game to come around though and that is the first time I've felt like that for a long long time ahead of a home match.

If Assaidi starts in place of Ethers then he'll be playing on his 'wrong' foot and able to cut in on his strong foot - his preferred position apparently. If that is the case I'd be tempted to play Pennant on the right on the grounds that he will be able to put the crosses in for Assaidi and Jones and is a decent defensive contributor as well. Pennant usually tires after 70 minutes or so and that would be the ideal time to give Arnie his debut.
So my starting front 3 (left to right) would be: Assaidi, Jones, Pennant
