His career has completely stalled and as someone said earlier he's far more of an orthodox winger. Not terribly excited myself.

No. He's not good enough.
Straightforward answer to that one.

Bit one paced IMO, tricky & decent delivery but pace is what we need!

In that first season for Villa he was one of the brightest young talents in that league, surely he can't have become a terrible player overnight?

Never been thrilled by him. And does seem more of a 4-4-2 winger than a dynamic, goalscoring 4-3-3 option. Seems to have been injured for the best part of 18 months - and I'd be worried if Lambert didn't see him as part of Villa's youth-based future.
Of the 2 wingers we've been linked with in the press this morning, I'd much prefer Assaidi

Always struck me as a "head down and run" winger.
We don't need another one.

If brought in would have him on the bench or as a squad player, not good enough start week in week out IMO

I'd take him, probably not much of an improvement on Kightly but young and has experience (some)

Not prem standard. Surely Sinclair is the man. Quick as anything and direct, young and only 5m-6m. Southampton and WBA are supposedly interested but are messing about so we should nip in.

He might be ok, but we need strikers.
We already have Kightley, Pennant, Shea, Etherington for instance. Even Shotton and Walters can play in that position as well.
Strikers? None as far as I see it...
We have a couple of target players though in Crouch and Jones.

As many have said, very much an out and out winger in a 4-4-2 formation and if we were looking at playing that formation, I wouldn't mind him in the squad as long as we shipped both Ethers and Kightly out and brought him in alongside another wide man who poses more of a goal threat.
That being said, it looks like we are setting up for a 4-3-3/4-5-1 and he just does not cut it as a wide man in a forward 3. He poses little or zero goal threat. It just wouldn't make sense.
Furthermore, he actually reminds me of another player that was discussed on this board recently and also made a transfer, who burst onto the scene and had a really good season and then it just went downhill into mediocrity. That player is James McClean. I fear both were 1 season wonders playing on adrenaline and no fear attitudes only which has all but dried up. I fully expect both to be playing Championship or lower for the majority of their careers.

I could actually see this being a inspirational signing. We, of all fans, should know never to write somebody off because their career stalled at a previous club. Maybe he could be a one season wonder for us, like Pennant, or be a long serving legend like Fuller.
There's definitely a player in there, he just needs a fresh start and a good manager to get the best out of him. Hopefully it's Hughes.

Did have some pace before the injury but we'll have to see whether it's still there. I always though Bannon was a better player.

Pretty much the same as Kightly, so no thanks. In that I mean run with your head down. It's lower league stuff. Top players should always be one step ahead.
