I was only 13 at this game Im sure it had to finish behind closed doors. If it wasnt for our lads we would have been fooked women, kids, everybody who was in the way got stomped and squashed there was no where to get out of the way. If I remeber right also sombody got serouly injured with the corner flag?
fooking scary...

Yeah I was there. Most bizarre set of circumstances I've ever seen in a football ground but if it hadn't of been for the loons many many innocent people would have been injured or even killed. It's a shame that the club went all out to identify the lads who were protecting their own and hand out life bans and heavy fines

Posted this before but I still enjoy reading my own account of that day
Remember the Brum match, cuz me an me mate, were in the Brum end behind their goal (due to us picking up some tickets for the stoke end that weren't waiting for us !!!) (To cut a long story short) we left all the lads and trundled down to the ground, only to end up in the Brum end, initially this was sound as it was full of normal supporters, about 10 min after kick off all the brum lads came in, a lot were in a bit of a state(blood down their jackets etc) so me and matey looked at each other and said this is going to be the quietest game ever, looking behind us, we saw someone we knew, a bloody girl who used to be a year above us at school, she must of left uni and ended up with a brummie, luckily she knew the score and just nodded and didn't say a word. Anyway keeping a low profile for the 1st half hour, bloody bertie biggins had a chance and I stood up with a oooooooh unlucky bertie, then it dawned on me where we were.. (Mate) had already stuck his head in his hands. FFS I said sorry to him....then as we scrambled over the 4 rows of seats to the steward at the front I glanced back to see loads of lads clambering over the seats to get at us..I told the steward in an ever so polite way that it would be good if we joined the Stoke fans now and if he could oblige us I would be ever so grateful, anyway I think he got us out, (Baskey probably has a slightly different version as we both had had a couple,) and slammed the gate as the 1st wave would have got to us.we thought we were alright then..but the steward then decided he would answer the brum fans ever so polite questions... TBH all I can remember was normal fans complaining about the chairman etc...in the meantime all the brummie lads were making there way to the front trying to gob on us and a fair few coins were thrown, I remember backing away up a step and then grabbing a pole...when I looked around I had hold of the bloody goalpost and the match was still playing ..me and me mate just looked towards the stoke end with a longing... eventually the steward continued to escort us, to me this whole scenario seemed to last for ages but it was probably a few minutes....then came one of the best moments of my life....obviously a lot of stoke fans saw a commotion of some sorts at the other end and as people started to recognise us and the stokies started cheering at us, remember hearing a bit of stokie aggro , stokies here stokie there etc:....got back in the stoke end and met up with a lot of the lads ...anyway to cut a long story short again, after the final whistle we were both on the fence defending the end and I can still see the face of this pakistani lad who launched the corner flag at me like a javelin ...god knows if it hit anyone behind me...they were mad in the ground but worse outside but we held our ground, I for one am glad I got back to the lads and from that day on swore I would never let a stokie down ever....

Not a bad summary of the day Pom. Just to add, after the running battles outside & the pain of getting twatted with a bat of some description across my shoulders one of the most amusing factors of the day was the train we all got lobbed onto to get us out of Brum. For those who remember the away days on the Inter City, there was always a police presence accompanying on the way back. In particular, one cop from the Stoke area who would chat with you about the days proceedings & occasionally do his Deputy Dawg impression with his police gloves hanging out of his Bobby's hat like ears. The daft cunt told us they'd restarted the game behind closed doors & Stoke had scored giving us the win. He was lying of course but it sent us all home happy. Anyone know what happened to him? He was one of the best cops that I ever met. He knew how to take the tension out of any situation & provided endless laughs on some of those away days

Their is a thread which elsewhere that goes into detail on that day. Yes I was there, and my disdain for the Blues has been ever since. They got shit all punishment in reality for that day. We were put on some special train to get to Bordsley Station before the game, and after was the a gauntlet of hate.
Thankful for the Stoke fans on the fence who hit, punched & kept the Blues out of the away end. It could have been a whole lot worse

I was there, aged 17 with 4 mates
Laughing Assassins, coins thrown (and other stuff) through the net seperating the fans, a superb mental after Barnesys goal, then really a bizarre and scary 10 - 20 minutes - honestly never been so thankful of our own brave chaps at the front
The walk back to the car was very quiet as we didn't speak as hell was breaking loose everywhere!

It was good to have the lads at Grimsby as well or that could have gone wrong big style. As for the Brum game, a valuable 3 points. I remember sitting on the coach worrying that were going to have to replay the game. Thankfully they played the last few minutes out

It was 1-1?
The commotion caused by our 88th minute equaliser (after Bertie nailed the keeper) and they they thought they had scored (Foxy smothering a good 2 yards from the line!) - some started to celebrate then that boiled over into a pitch invasion, which then turned decidedly nasty!
Can only remember Burnley away (92-3ish?) being as bad, got twatted in the street for wearing my top, think Shawry scored twoce in a 2-0 win! My mates black and blue that day.

Four things I'll never forget from that day
1 the Stokies doing a sterling job on the fence keeping the Brummie nutters out of our end.
2 being pelted with coins (got one right on the ear -lucky really I suppose)
3 the chaos outside as in there wisdom they let all fans out at the same time and didn't keep us behind.
4 the Stokie lad staggering past me outside the ground with blood pouring from his eye.
Terrible day one that put me off going to away games for a good while tbh.

Was genuinely frightening leaving and trying to get to my car without being bricked to death...

I was there.... four of us got back to the car sharpish with not a word spoken.... then had to sit there for 10 minutes (amongst seriously pissed off Brum fans walking home/rioting!) waiting for our Buddhist mate to grace us with his presence after he serenely dawdled along marveling at all that is good in the world.

I thought what sparked it was when Cranson stopped it on the line and they thought they had scored. Oh and being peed off with the tackle earlier on the keeper by Bertie and then the ref allowing Barnes to continue and score!
Certainly a very crazy day especially getting back to the car blue shirts everywhere, only saw one police officer and it was a woman with a dog if I remember correctly.

I went to the game and strangely my clearest memory is on the way home in the car hearing a blues fan getting cut off on 606 when he said something like 'he knew there would be trouble when he saw what an ugly crew Stoke had dragged along to the game'. Can't remember who the host was who cut him off but I know the show is always careful not to glorify any trouble. Here is the original thread on this topic, all 6 pages of it Birmingham Away

Bloody Hell Baskey just re read the original thread and found your 2009 version (never read that before) HERE"S YOUR VERSIONIf you are on about the gate on the right hand side of the away end, it was never burst open, it was opened ;D A pile of the Blythe Bridge lads were in the seats to the right hand side and were toe to toe with them at the end of the match. As they got heavily outnumbered 3:1 we opened the gate to let em in, it just so happened that there was a flow of people coming out too. They broke on from the left hand side too, not sure how that happened. There was a big youth with long blonde permed hair who got smacked and when he got back up his head and hair were a lovely shade of claret. It was going off all day that day from the moment we got there. Birmingham - me and a friend of mine got the train down expecting to pick up tickets from their office. the tickets should have been left for us by Newcastle lads and dads according to my old fella's mate. They weren't We spent the first half behind the opposite goal getting sussed by every blue nose loon in there. There had been 20 Stoke escorted out after 5 minutes so when we asked to be moved by the stewards at half time we thought we would be good. WRONG.....stewards thought it a pisser and we were eventually saved from a beating as the police saw us being confronted by a pile of their lads. We got walked round the perimeter, we got spat at and hit on a couple of occasions and then ran across to our end. Safe enough inside the cage thank god when the end came only to be let outside into the mayhem as we tried to get back to the train. Got clubbed with a lump of wood and then spent what seemed like an eternity fighting running battles up and down that road by the waste ground. We got back to a football special train but can't remember how and it wasn't at New St. That daft bugger copper (deputy dawg ears) was on it along with a who's who of Stoke hooligans. He told us Stoke had won when they came back on and then the windows came through minutes later as we were pelted with bricks. I have to admit, the exhilaration experienced on some of those away trips was amazing.

You know what though - after leaving the ground apart from the initial fighting on the waste ground - and some vague memory about the top floor of a bus with pottsey - I cannot remember nothing else of that day
(Think we might of been on too much 'stuff') I still can't picture you been hit with something (remember you moaning about it for months (("maybe a few days")) after though)
Hey Bask - everyone goes on about the Brum, Grimsby game - but I thought the Oldham FA cup match away was superb !!!
Summary
- Did Oldham on their patch (even though you let me & clive be bait)(Bask remember all the coppers chasing us through the market - it was like a labyrinth) - got back to Manchester and had a run in with United - eventually Piccadilly station and Man city had just got back from Liverpool 'did them' - then back at Stoke Station Wolves were there (after playing vale) and we ran across the tracks to do them ....
Now that was a day !!!!

The one you're talking about I had a problem making it to the ground. Something to do with a chap opening the back doors of a large black van and inviting me to spend some time (about 2 hours) with him and his friends
