Just dug out a prog' from 1980, and to be honest, never heard of him, Wiki says "just under 50 appearances for the club" (is that 49?!)
"Ursem became the first foreign player to play for Stoke City" - Dutch master? or not...?

Good bloke, honest pro, tricky on the byline good crosser, always liked him myself. Nothing bad to say, eventually just overshadowed by Chambo.

One of my favourite players, probably because me and my mates used to sing to the tune of Hersham boys by Sham 69
Uresem Boys, Ursem boys, laced up boots and courderoys

I started a similar thread a fair while back mate. I remember his name and what he looked like but just cannot remember him as a player. There is a real lack of footage from the first two seasons of the 80's which doesn't help.

A tall blonde winger but thin hair (balding) at a young age. Skillful and good crosser of a ball, not gifted with pace. Also injury prone (Stoke DNA).

Decent winger. He asked my sister for a date, she declined the offer.

Would we say he was a poor man's Peter Hoekstra on the right wing?? Difficult really as Ursem played in the top division for us whereas Hoekstra didn't Durban (like Pulis) wasn't really fond of him as he was a 'flair' player, but then promptly took him with him to Sunderland when he went there!!

Remember reading an old programme from that time that said that Mr Durban had gone scouting several young Dutch prospects and had selected Ursem over the others including Ruud Gullit And Frank Rijkaard !

Ace player. Skillful. He used to tell me how pissed off he was with Durban that he wouldn't pick him and once asked me to 'Kick him up his arse". At the start of a new season I asked what he thought of the manager and got the reply "He's still fucking crap" Weirdly when Durban was at Sunderland he took Ursem from us on loan. Ursem was popular with the fans and at the end of 80/81 got chairlifted by fans at the end of the season.
He also had smooth hands.

Tricky dribbler. Crowd pleaser. Exotic foreigner. Blond hair. Whipped balls into the box pretty well. I'm a little surprised he made almost 50 appearances tbh. He seemed to be in and out of first team quite a bit as I recall.
The original Brek Shea??

He almost got us killed at Maine Road by scoring a wonder goal that wedged in the apex of the net, we'd managed to keep ourselves incognito when Chapman scored the 1st, but oh no up steps Ursem with the winner it was quite frightening

Good player-neglected by Durban. Saw him turn out for the reserves (Steve Parkin played RB) at Swansea once. Team lost but those two were a class apart.

Was a cracking player, always gave 110% and as previously stated on this thread an excellent crosser of the ball.

Always liked Loek, you never knew quite what he was going to do next. Particularly remember the goal at Maine Road, Stoke didn't often win away at Man City in those days so both the goal and the win came as a welcome surprise that day, though as mentioned, the Platt Lane End wasn't the best place for me to have a mental as the ball hit the back of the net.
Happy days.
