Get rid of Kightly and Ethers and you have a player who can play left and right side. The departing two must have pretty good combined wages, add £5 million to the combined fees we may expect (£1 million and £1.5 million respectively) and we then have Ince, Pennant and Shea as our wingers. Job's a good un.

Heard this two days ago. That was why I said they would go down this season, they've missed out on about 5 players now. Crisis time for them, they're offering big wages yet players are still turning them down, oh dear...

We have to hope that Cartwright is keeping Hughes updated on events like this. Ince would (as Jimmyg says) suit us down to the ground if we can move Ethers and Kightly on - if we don't get much for them so be it. Providing we can reduce the wage bill by enough to cover Ince's wages we'd be daft not to try to get him.

I'd love him here. The kind of player we are screaming out for at the minute; Pace, confidence, cuts in well too which is key if you're looking at the two wide men supporting a lone forward.
The benefit of him turning down Cardiff would also be that we might well grab him at a cheaper price than originally touted.
Easily worth £6-7million.

And remember, Ince's dad will know Hughes well from their playing days.

Agree with all the above. Aren't Hughes and Ince Senior (both dad and manager of Tom, lest we forget) good mates for their Man Ure days too? Cardiff's accepted bid was £8m, though, which seems a bit steep to me.

"Cardiff City FC ?@cardiffcityfc 13m Blackpool midfielder Thomas Ince will not be joining Cardiff City, having opted to stay close to his new born child in Blackpool."
That solves that then...however this guy's reply is even better:
"Ben Isaacs ?@tweetsfromben 11m @cardiffcityfc Having moved house a few times I can tell you babies are quite easy to move. It's wardrobes that are difficult"

Hasn't his mrs just had a kid? Perhaps uprooting his family (anywhere between Blackpool & MCR I presume) to south wales was too much of a cause for concern. He could easily commute if he were to sign for us, all ifs & buts of course.

I would move an effing mountain for a few hundred quid. Fuck him off, mard arse. Eh? He's obviously thinking more long term. Either he doesn't feel it's a long term move or he doesn't have much confidence in them staying up. In which case he's made a decision based on what he feels is right for himself & his family, rather than jumping at the first big money offer which comes his way. Whilst he's hardly going to be striving to make ends meet at Blackpool we should applaud players that care more about their circumstances than the amount of zero's in their bank account.

It's a no brainier really. He's exactly what we need and we could probably get him. It's no going to happen though, we are not in for him. I cant see us buying a winger. We've re signed pennant for the right wing and Shea is our big hope for the left with the experience of Matty as competition.
That ship of a new winger has sailed when we re-signed Pennant. The first decision that Hughes made.

If we don't sign at least one winger we're in big trouble. Disagree. Pennant is sound at this level, Kightly is okay, Ethers will be better this season and Shea has a reputation for a reason. I'm more than content with that lot to be honest.

I'm more than content with that lot to be honest. Alternatively, whilst not being argumentative for arguments sake.. Pennant was sound at this level 18 months ago, and may not be the player we all like to remember . Kightly is toss. Etherington may well be shot now and has only regressed since hitting the deck against Wolves. Shea has a reputation in the US, and we've seen much brighter prospects come to England and fail.

If we don't sign at least one winger we're in big trouble. I agree entirely. But I don't think it's going to happen. Unless we get a bid for Kightly or Etherington then we will be stuck with what we've got. That's why amongst other reasons I was so disappointed when Pennant resigned. A space opened up to add a quality winger and we immediately filled it up with an ageing Pennant who hasn't show any real form for 2 years now. I think either Crouch or Jones will go and that will free up a slot for a new striker. We will probably splash about 8m if the right one comes along. If Nzonzi goes we will probably splash out on a replacement. Short of that I can't see any further additions as there simply isn't room in the squad. We've got 2 players for every position.

Kightly may turn out to be better but Ethers legs have gone. Ince and Shea would be good longer term Damian Roden will get Ethers back up & running mark my words. Same goes with Pennant though I'd say his form is more dependent on his attitude, which is good news for us because his ego will drive him to prove a point. Kightly has played at this level for a good few years and has more to his game than what we saw last season. Shea will score at least 8 goals this season. We're sound for wingers in my eyes.
