Doubt it. Understudy to Shawcross & Huth with perhaps a few gigs at DM. There'll probably be a few games at full back for him too, I would think. With the three/four (depending on how you class Wilson) full backs at the club being how they are, you would expect him to get a reasonable amount of games filling in after injury and suspension.

Good signing,so he's had experience playing with top players and still very young.I imagine this league will help him boost his physical strength. This signing is ideal for change in the way we play? Possession.

@barcastuff 1h Before joining Stoke City yesterday, defender Marc Muniesa (21) also held talks with Real Sociedad, Betis, Celta, Nuremberg and Ajax. [md]

[md] Well if that group of clubs are a less attractive option (for any reason) than Stoke, we are going up in the world. I suppose we have to be realistic and say that money talks - but it is still nice to fend off that sort of competition for a foreign player with potential.

We offered better contract by a mile I read somewhere + he wanted to play in England.
You have to think he is decent by reading things on him.

There was no natural left back at the club so we've signed pieters, muniesa would have signed as a left back to push pieters, can't see him playing midfield or centre half tbh. To left backs for 3 mil and also gainin a midfielder in Wilson is brilliant business.

Oh yeh definitely LP plus we may have given him some sort of 1st team assurances maybe if he's fit he will get a chance at some point.

Some very good comments on there. The Barca fans think we have a real bargain and they will be buying him back for 30 Mil in a couple of years time

Michael BaggaleyJust to clarify, Stoke see Marc Muniesa as primarily a left back who can also play centre half, not the other way round

"@barcastuff: Muniesa (Stoke City): "I chose Stoke because of the coach. Hughes has convinced me with his football philosophy. He wants me as centre back" I hope this one doesn't end in tears! However you dress it up, the lad just looks to small to be a premier league centre half.

I popped on here last night to kill a few minutes and was happy to see that there were the usual threads from the terminally despondent. At some stage I appeared to slip into a parallel Universe where Stoke not only sign a left backs but also sign players from Barcelona. Sadly in this parallel Universe I am still not married to Clare Grogan but I guess I can't have everything. When Marc turns up for training the first time I think he might find one of these useful with his background.

There's a 10-minute audio interview with him here from Catalan radio today for any Catalan/Spanish speakers! Catalan radio twitter"He triat l'Stoke per l'entrenador. Hugues m'ha convençut amb la seva filosofia. Em vol per fer de central""I have chosen for the Stoke manager. Hughes convinced me with his philosophy. Wants me to make central"
One of the extracts from it they've tweeted does seem to indicate he's aiming for CB!

So, in short, we're none the wiser as to whether he's primarily seen as a CB or LB.
Michael Baggaley has clearly been given the steer that he's seen as a LB, where as the player has got the impression that he's wanted primarily as a CB.
What's Catalan for clear as mud?

Said earlier, a Spanish mate of mine sees him as a midfielder and said he can play both in the defensive or offensive role.

If we are being honest Fuller, I doubt we've got a grand plan yet. Realistically Hughes can't have seen anything of him and he was clearly one of the names just thrown at him. We obviously wanted him and probably just told him what he wanted to hear.
I fully expect to see Pieters starting the season on the left with Ryan and Huth in the middle. Muniesa will be back up and step in when any of the others are injured/suspended. After that who knows!?

Oh well, it'll all come out in the wash... 'Sport' newspaperAsked about the position they occupy in the field, Muniesa confirmed he will play in central defense, ie, in his more natural position, where he will fight "to grow as a player."

I was puzzled how we have managed to get this guy for free , but according to this interview Barca are releasing him on a free in recognition of his 4 years service, and the fact he has had bad luck with injuries. Respect to them , I doubt many of our so called top clubs would act in this way.

His contract has expired and he is a free agent the reason they say they are letting him go is that although they think he is a great prospect he is still way down the pecking order and has had his injuries.

I don't see where the confusion is coming from, he's a CB. it's come from various reports describing him as a left back like Pieters it's seems reasonably clear that he can play both positions todays Sentinel states left back is all covered between the two of them just need some attacking midfielders now...
