I've no clue what the "Confederations Cup" is but I think I'll stay up and give this 'showpiece' from the Maracana a go.

Are a lot of the World Cup games going to be kicking off at that time of night?

It's not too bad actually....
Most group matches to kick off at 5pm, 9pm or 11pm. In a break from tradition, Fifa has allowed four daily kick-off slots in the 32-team group phase instead of three, so one group match will start at 2am UK time after which there will be three group matches each day. The round of 16 and the quarter-finals will be at 5pm and 9pm.
The semi-finals – to be played in Sao Paulo and Belo Horizonte – will start at 9pm while the final, to be held in Rio de Janeiro at the Maracana on 13 July, will kick off at 8pm.

Its better than the mid morning/early afternoon of some years when we all have to take time off work to watch it.

Its better than the mid morning/early afternoon of some years when we all have to take time off work to watch it. Blimey, that World Cup in 2002 held in South Korea and Japan. What time were some of those kick-offs? 6am? Maybe worse, i remember going out one night and thinking "damn, i've gotta be up at 6am to watch England Vs Nigeria"

Yeah, I prefer late to early when it comes to World Cup games outside of the Eurozone.
At least you can still have a stiff drink and go bed afterwards rather than to work.

As a student I loved the 1978 World Cup in Argentina which had kick-offs around 9 p.m. & 11 p.m. Not quite so sure that those kick-off times fit quite so well with my current lifestyle! At midnight I now turn into a pumpkin.

I can't see Brazil wasting the types of chances Italy and even Nigeria created against Spain. I love watching Iniesta play but I hope Spain lose.

How many life altering injuries will we see? Or will they just scream, roll around then magically recover.

I think this will be a cracking game. Brazil simply aren't allowed to lose yet Spain have smashed everyone in sight in recent times. Somethings got to give.

As an aside, are Spain the most loathed (and loathsome) world champions of all time? I'd have thought that title would go to Maradona's boys and I'm not even English.
