Had to giggle at the comment below 'I dare wager it's better than spending it in Stoke'

At least there's no "We could have done without Palace as first home game Nige, they'll be flying after just getting promoted, and they're a smashing club who were in the FA Cup in 1990" this season!

I cannot believe that the teams at home on Boxing Day are also at home 2/3 days later on 28th / 29th!!! In all probability, the away teams may have to move from one hotel to another with such close fixtures! There are few "local" games scheduled over this period as well!
So much for considering the fans at this time!!! For those without season tickets an expensive time for 2 consecutive home games. For ardent away supporters, no public transport on Boxing Day, high outlay with 2 games so close together
The fans miss out and so will some clubs where potentially, their attendances will fall.

Been like that for the last couple of seasons though 2011/12 26/12/11 - Aston Villa (H) 31/12/11 - Wigan Athletic (H) 2012/13 26/12/12 - Liverpool (H) 29/12/12 - Southampton (H)

Had to giggle at the comment below 'I dare wager it's better than spending it in Stoke' I'm surprised bet 365 aren't offering odds on such a wager.

Initially ( and selfishly) I was looking at our fixtures first of all!
However on closer inspection it's ALL of the Premiership home teams on Boxing Day, at home again a couple of days later!!
POOB, you are correct to point out our fixtures for the last 2 seasons, is this a standard arrangement then?
And in that schedule some teams have arguably their longest distances to travel on one of those dates! Sunderland to Everton, Man Utd to Hull Southampton to Cardiff, not to forget Stoke to Newcastle.

if you are home boxing day you have to be away on new years day
it probably makes great sense from a compiling POV that boxing day and the 28th is two home games.
people would moan if it was boxing day home then two aways
they cant win.
it doesnt help that the premier league has asked for no big games on boxing day, that means no derbies, as they figure the christmas games are well attended anyway - a bit shit IMO

Not sure why it changed, because it wasnt the case in 2010/11 and I just couldnt really be bothered to look back any sooner than that! But on the basis that you play home/away boxing day and away/home new years day, there's always going to be back to back home or away games in that short period anyway

We moan but who else should Newcastle of played. Say it is their turn to play 2 home games over Xmas - like we have for the past 2 years. What opposition is closer than Stoke? Sunderland - not going to have a derby. Only Hull and the Manx teams are surely any closer than us? Scousers about the same.

We might have benefitted from it last year but on New Years Day we will face Everton whose players in the space of a week will have spent every night in their own beds and travelled a total of 60 miles. Our players on the other hand will have travelled 700 miles and spent at least two nights away from home. If you can send a man to the fricking moon you can come up with a fairer system than that.

I don't think NASA use the FA's fixture programme at Cape Canaveral though...

to be fair it's not as if we're talking about players having to fly back and forth to bleedin Cuba within 3 days or anything.....it's a few hours on a team coach down the bloody motorway!!! hardly going to be suffering with fitness problems after 3 and a half hours on the M62 are they?
talk about a storm in a tea cup!
we got home fixtures last season, this season we have to play away...woop-te-feckin-do!
i know it's close season and all but if we HAVE to find something to moan and whinge about then it'd be good if it was something actually worth moaning about in the first place! other clubs have EXACTLY the same problems every year..we got lucky last couple of years with home games and not so lucky this year, end of!

Ok then mick if you don't buy that Everton's players will be much better rested, how about the fan argument? Anyone spending 12 hours out of the house on Boxing Day is going to have an understanding partner to get another pass for 7 hours out of the house on two days later. That's without the money implications. Perhaps you're a billionaire with an understanding wife, Some of us aren't

That's without the money implications. Perhaps you're a billionaire with an understanding wife, Some of us aren't aaah now on the fan argument i completely agree momo but i think this is the ONLY reason for playing fixtures against "Local" teams i.e. for the fans sake. unfortunately as we all know the Prem and the FA give absolute no thought to the fans at any point in any decision though so as much as we dislike it we gotta lump it whether we like it or not.like i say, we weren't complaining when other fans had to travel to us on boxing day with no public transport etc. etc. last couple of years definitely not buying the "Better rested" argument though. Everton players can sit on their arses in their house for the time that our players are sitting on their arses on a coach..really don't see that giving them too much of an advantage to be fair. if the players can't "rest" sufficiently enough to give just 180 minutes of hard work over 3 days just because they're on a bus somewhere on a motorway then they don't deserve the tag of Professional and sure as hell don't deserve tens of thousands of pounds a week!i'd thoroughly expect ANY Prem team's facilities and training schedules to be sufficient enough that a bloody coach journey down the road won't cause too much of an issue..... i spent 2 and a half hours on the motorway just last week in one trip, felt fine when i got out at the other end to be honest....was busting for a piss but i'm guessing that Goodison will have loos for the players when they get there it's just a bollocksy excuse we seem to have made all ready to go just in case things go tits up in those games as far as i'm concerned!
