I'm of the opinion that its simply not possible anymore.
Can you imagine what you would have to pay for a 25 year old striker capable of scoring more than 10 goals a season..?
Nah ....I'm afraid when it comes down to it, Mark Hughes will have to go abroad and spend heavily.
Bent , Bendtner , Zamora , Holt etc etc ....No ...No thanks.
Legends in their own minds.

I'd happily take Darren Bent...
Bendtner is a good player but he has a terrible attitude and he made a fool of himself at Arsenal.
Zamora has always been shite. Never understood what people saw in the guy. He banged a few goals for Brighton... great.

On another note. We should be looking for out of contract players, players in the last year of their contracts, players just relegated, or players from abroad.

I think you can find it. Some of Villa's best young players last season were picked up for peanuts. The English players who've done well for Swansea in the last 2-3 seasons like Dyer, Sinclair etc weren't dear. Moses cost Wigan less than £3m. McCauley has been a great signing for West Brom.
It is out there - all about finding the right mix/balance.
