If it's true Bego wants to stay then he must be pretty assured & excited that we are pushing in the right direction. If we can keep hold of Bego, Shawcross, Huth & add Micah Richards or maybe sneak him on loan we would be one Top Quality Left Back away from possibly the best back 5 in the League, imo? I think Hughes could probably swing as deal for Richards given he did well under him at Man City. Can you imagine a back 5 of ------------------------------------ BEGOVIC -------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------RICHARDS-------SHAWCROSS-----HUTH------? Relegation???? .......

I don't see it happening. But wouldn't mind him here... Good defender... We'd have to think his wages would massively alter any other deals.

The best back 5 in the league? I reckon we would need to sign at least 4 new players to have that, and that's even if Richards did sign. Some Stoke fans make me chuckle at times

Some Stoke fans make me chuckle at times I think Chelsea have the best individuals. I think Man Utd are a shade of their former selves. Man City imo are so good because of the players they have in front of them, Kompany aside. Spurs, not bad. Arsenal would swap ours for theirs! I don't think we are a million miles away, we have possibly the best keeper in the League aswell.

Then you could argue that the two scouse clubs have better back lines than us also. You're not far off apart from all those clubs though mate

I've got to say that I think if you stuck Bego, Shawcross, Huth & two top Quality Fullbacks into any of these teams 11 they wouldn't conceed any more goals than these clubs currently do. All these clubs have a better & Dangerous midfield than Stoke have had and the team they face has to take that into account when playing them.

Chelsea? I'd rather have our centre halves than theirs. Cahill is dire, Luiz is a midfielder and Terry is gone. Cech and Bego are much of a muchness. The full backs shit all over ours. And then I remember Ivanovic, shit! Gives Chelsea the win.

Huth has been nothing short of quality for us but there is a reason he doesn't play for a top club. Shawcross also has been immense for us but I'm still not convinced he has what it takes to play for one of the top sides either. Begovic is undoubtedly a quality keeper, who if he keeps improving as he is,will definitely play for one of the top sides in this country. I'm still not 100% confident that Huth and Shawcross are going to look as solid under our new manager, because we won't be defending as a 10 man unit I shouldn't imagine. I reckon we will see how good they really are this season as we employ different tactics, lets hope they both prove me completely wrong and have outstanding seasons!

I'd love to have Richards here however:
A) a left back, right winger, central midfielder, striker, even decent centre half cover are all (well should be) higher up on our list of priorities before we consider replacing Wilko/Shotton.
B) Man City would laugh at us for having the bare face cheek to inquire.

But I rate Michah Richards as the best right back in the right back in the country (when he's fit) I think Man City would be crazy to let him go.

Would of course love to see Richard play for Stoke, but I really think we have more urgent positions to fill! Wingers, a striker and a left back. I have no problem with Wilson playing at left back, but we need cover at least!

Imo he should be England's right back, I think he's better than Johnson and walker. He's got good competition with zabaletta who I really rate aswell so he may well go on loan somewhere, who knows it may be here, we would certainly be in the running as most the teams around the top 8 have very good right backs as it is

He'd be up for a loan. It's worth remembering it's world cup time next season so he needs to be playing if he wants to be involved. I can't say I've ever particularly rated him though, very much an athlete before a footballer. Immense unit though.

Nothing wrong with Richards, but I would still ensure we do something with our problem positions first. Right back is probably the position where we have the best options already (Shotton, Wilson, Wilko, Cameron)!
