He will be like a new signing if true. Fighting to prove himself and repay the club for giving him a second.. No... Third.... Fourth chance. Give him a six month contract to begin with with strict rules in place for him to win an extension. Like a short loan/trial. I see no harm in giving him another chance if he performs as well as we know he can. Pay as you play at most. thats the one.

Ugh, a sign of desperation? Must mean we can't offload him? Is Hughes mad? Ugh... 30+ wingers! Was hoping for a mass exodus of players from MF but keep pennant of all people? Trouble ahead.

I think we all know how spiteful Tone can be once he's decided he doesn't like a player for whatever reason. If Pennant was a problem there's no way Coates would even mention a possible return. This is more proof Pulis had no idea how to manage certain types of players and reiterates why we needed a new manager.

As Pennant's contract expires at the end of this month - why would we need to offload him? Come 1st July we simply stop paying him unless we offer him a new deal.

Creative journalism?
This is John Percy, a bloke who has been spot on with almost everything he's wrote ref. Stoke City this summer thus far.

I don't think there is anything in the story that is that surprising. I'm sure Hughes will want to want to everybody in the club to see what they want to do/ where they want to play and that includes anyone who wasn't it the main squad, so Pennant should be able to have a chance. That said he was loaned out to Wolves and was so poor he came back to us with dire reports - but if Hughes thinks he can turn him around great. The friendly internationals, and end of season have slowed down the process of Hughes getting to know the players so it could be a while before we know what direction the team will take, although Hughes has said it will not be wholesale.

Trouble with taking Pennant is he'll take up the right wing slot while he has another fresh start, then after deadline day he'll break a club rule get frozen out again then we'll have Shotton at right mid!
I know that Pulis tried his best with him, so don't see why he deserves 'another chance'.

Read. The. Article. Classic case of creative journalism. There is nothing in the story to back up the headline, it's just speculation. Surely direct quotes from the chairman saying he has been discussed means its not cut and dried though? Why have a discussion about a player who is now a free agent unless there is any chance of a new deal or at least a trial period? What we don't know is if Hughes is interested in JP, Uncle Peter certainly isn't dismissing the notion though.

What harm would it do to have him as a squad player or would people prefer shotton on the wing again if we got some injuries?

Well, maybe there is substance to it, but the headline says Hughes is "poised to hand" Pennant a "second chance", whereas the only meat in the story is Coates' quote that Pennant is a free agent and it's up to the manager. There's a fair stretch to get to the headline from that.

I know that Pulis tried his best with him, so don't see why he deserves 'another chance'. You know Pulis tried his best with him do you? All we know is the very little that was reported in the press and on twatter about the fallings out. Nothing was actually confirmed apart from he got done for drink driving, while a lot of people on here were calling him woman beating scum for another incident that night, which he was totally exonerated from. Let's face it none of us know what went on, and with the chairman seemingly on board with the idea then maybe, just maybe TP didn't actually try his best and had washed his hands of Pennant well before we thought he had. Anyway for me , I don't see why giving him a years contract and using him as a back up is a bad idea? H

I will be stunned if this happens. Likewise. The manager may be gone, but the club knows what he did. Setting that aside, he didn't exactly set the world alight at wolves, a relegated championship side. And he's 31.

Well this was a non-starter, he's been release. The story acknowledges that though. Don't suppose it means he won't re-sign? Pennant is now a free agent after his deal expired at the end of last month "Jermaine is now a free agent and his situation has been discussed, but the final decision on what happens will rest with the manager.
"If we can get the same Jermaine Pennant from two years ago, we'll have got ourselves a very good player for nothing. But it will all depend on what Mark wants."

Well this was a non-starter, he's been release. I'm not sure if that proves anything one way or the other. Until/unless Hughes decides he is worth a contract of any sort, he is released. You have to give him the right to see what offers he gets - we don't operate a form of slavery!

Creative journalism? This is John Percy, a bloke who has been spot on with almost everything he's wrote ref. Stoke City this summer thus far. Has he? I confess I don't particularly follow him, but didn't he tell us Stoke were looking to Di Matteo to replace Pulis? Other than that I thought he was just writing pretty much what everyone else was. I have no problem with being proved wrong though, it wouldn't be the first time!

Saying he's the best winger on the books is a bit like saying Ringo Starr is the most talented surviving Beatle apart from Paul McCartney. True, but where does it take the debate? Not really, he did say Pennant was the best winger at the club, not the best winger at the club except for... He was therefore actually saying that Paul McCartney was the most talented surviving Beatle... which means he's obviously never heard the Frog Chorus... Intriguing! McCartney out, Pennant in says I!!!

John Percy Twitterre Pennant: Is there any indication that Hughes is broadly open to the possibility? Will it depend on their chat? Hughes is relaxed about it but, yes, the meeting will decide which way it goes. Pennant would like to stay
