The Marquis in Penkhull really ought to be a fantastic boozer. Fabulous looking Victorian building, good sized beer garden, great potential inside with the old school bar & lounge. However, it's just not well run enough, and whereas it should be the heart of Penkhull, it's just a shadow of its former self.

Shame when a good-ish pub goes to the wall... I had some good laughs in the 'miners'. The Waterloo, was that in Longton?... me memory's going! the Clock (Clarendon) was in my Bermuda Triangle,,, different times My error & I stand corrected....it was the Shammy, The Owd Hut & The Clock. Not The Waterloo

Shammy, owd hut, bridge, Robin Hood all good boozers back in the day. Waterloo was more like wall of smoke when you went in, it was the smokiest boozer in longton. No decent pubs left in longton apart from congress and possibly siggy.
Most of my drinking pubs are in stoke now. London road is a great pub crawl road.

railway, Heron Cross Hollybush Bentilee Hollybush Bentilee was fantastic in the 70s and 80s, especially when Kenny Durber (rip) ran it. The old Sea Lion (rip) in Stoke was my other 'home' around that time, enjoyed many a pub crawl around Stoke starting and finishing in the Sea Lion. I'd give a lot to experience just one more pre-match in there and then onto the Old Vic for a night match to see Huddy and Greenhoff
