We buy Butland so we all assume he will be going, the chairman says he wont stand in his way if a top club comes in for him and also says he is ambitious. Well that all adds up to the fact he is going to me, so the sooner the better. The scenario we dont want is haggling for cash on August 31st it needs sorting now or he stays until xmas at least. Now for me Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs, and Man utd dont have better goal keepers than us at the moment and they have spent big on all there goalies so we should price Bego in that range. Just because were Stoke we dont take less and be bullied. Minimum 15 million for me and if our new esteemed manger wants players from interested parties we should turn the screw a bit in our favour. If we dont get what we want for him well we have and a great keeper on our hands who will get better.De Gea really is toss and cost what 22 mill? We should be asking that at least if that is his worth. If De Gea played for may other prem teams he would be classed as average. if he goes we get top dollar, (were a established prem team) or we prize players clubs dont really want to lose for him and all early in the off season please.

You seem to be getting your knickers in a twist for no particular reason. Coates explained the position yesterday which is that Bego can go but only to a top club for a very good offer. The ball is now in the court of any clubs who care to bid for him. At least they know he won't be released for peanuts. If we sound too keen to sell him then they are not going to make big offers. If he goes he goes (and we have Butland) - if he stays we have a top keeper for another season (and presumably Butland goes out on loan, possibly to a Prem club).

I agree £20m minimum or swap for several top players!

You think Spurs would have Begovic instead of Lloris? and Utd would get rid of De Gea now he's come good?!.. I think Arsenal and Liverpool are the only option (in England) and more likely Liverpool if Reina goes to Barcelona.

Bego will go for the right money, he wants to play for a 'bigger' club and the money from bego will give MH spending money to improve other positions. That's how I make it out.

So we shouldn't haggle on price, but we should only accept massive offers, and we should get him gone quick?
Coates has said if a big offer comes in from a big club, then he can go. What else can he do? He'd also be silly to accept the first offer when there are said to be a few clubs (very rich ones) interested.
I agree that he is likely to go, but surely when the bids come in is up to the buying clubs, not us.

Coates knows the vultures are circling so he is forcing begos hand and inviting an auction.
He signed butland knowing this was eventual.
Shrewd move Peter

I still don't like the idea of Butland as first choice.
As Brian Clough said, "Never trust a keeper who only has to shave once a week"

Think a lot of people get confused and think that because teams win titles there are not poor players in the team. My opinion of course but he is shit. he has a few decent performances and he is all of a sudden world class mainly because he plays for the Shit. I think they will struggle a bit next year and then we will see if he is any good. year one he was wank for them.

What Im trying to say is that historically we make a mess of these things and will be accepting say 8 or 9 mill on 31 st august because we have an unhappy player on our hands who wants to go to say Anfied and Liverpool dont want to play top dollar. PC has pretty much said he can go for the right money but I feel there has to be a cut off point otherwise it could get quite disruptive at the start of the season.

What does that make the fat left back who has to play in goal on a Sunday morning as the keeper is still pissed? He's a very good keeper who had a nervous start and then came into his own and was top of a lot of knowledgeable football people's list for keeper of the season I've seen some crackpot posts over the last couple of weeks this is up there along with legend status for a below average right back, perhaps people use extreme words far too easily these days

Personally I would assume Bego is staying and only consider the possibility of him going if a really big offer came our way. If we are to grow and shake off this stupid "little Stoke" attitude we need to retain our best players. When Banks played for us he was rated as amongst, if not the, best in the world.

Begovic is currently the best keeper in the world and Peter Coates knows this. He is deliberately drumming up a bidding war that will result in World record fee for a keeper. There are half a dozen clubs who are in the market and I expect a fee of over £20 million without a doubt. This will fund our summer transfer budget and the rest will go to a good cause...

Bego would have been put on ice until Hughes came in.
Hughes and his agents may be able to do a deal for other players at the bigger clubs now they are in place.
Would not have made sense to sell him before the new manager was appointed

No people that watch a lot of football know a good footballer from a bad un. De Gea had a very rocky start to his Man U career, he struggled with the physical side to our league, Infact he looked shocking at times and was rightly dropped, but this last season he has come on leaps and bounds. I still think 22 Mill was well over the odds for him, but if he continues his consistancy for them he won't have been a terrible buy. Bego has been getting better and better for us this season, but he too still has his downfalls mainly his kicking and distribution.

If Beggo wants to go let him, I cant blame him for being ambitious and wanting to play for a succesful team that continually wins major honours, lets be fair he will win the square root of fuck all here at Stoke,.............
Plus.........
......Some of you on here have a short memory, he had not been playing for Stoke long when rumours circulated that Chelsea were interested, next thing he does not want to play for the club away at Shrewsbury on Tuesday night as his head was not right and Tommy stands in for him, then this year just after Christmas Beggo goes through what I would class as his his worst period between the sticks whilst playing for the club, just around the winter transfer deadline closing date.....coincidence, err no I don't think it was....winkey smiley thing goes some where around here.
For me he can go for both reasons, one because I am greatful that he is one of the most outstanding young keepers in the modern game and he played for my beloved club and deserves success, and the other reason that he played for my beloved club but had his head turned...Twice......another winkey smiley thing goes here.

I still don't like the idea of Butland as first choice. As Brian Clough said, "Never trust a keeper who only has to shave once a week" Agree totally. Butland has great potential but is not good enough as first choice in PL yet. IMO Sorro still has a couple of years at least at the top so bringing Butland in as his understudy and gradually wean him in as his replacement is the way forward if Bego goes. Also Les has brought in his own GK coach to replace Andy Quy which will help Butland.

Unless we get the right offer I think Bego will stay and we'll loan Butland out to a promoted club as Man City did with Hart.
