"Gone are the days of Whitehead and Whelan for you guys". I like the sound of that!

Knowing what you do about Hughes and our squad, what kind of players do you see us bringing in this summer? I genuinely think he will look to make sure the defence is settled first then look to build, always a priority of his is to remain "resolute". Huth will defiantly stay as I seem to remember ourselves once tracking him as a target under Hughes. I'd expect a few foreign players to come in on recommendation of Rigg who is an excellent spotter of talent, there does seem to be a better quality of player for your money abroad. His previous signings could be replicated, I could see him taking Bentley on a free who your being linked with. I could see Hoillett perhaps coming in as he was a regular under Mark at QPR. Two great low money signings there of which are a good age and motivated to prove a point. Players like Palacios, Brek O'shea, Kenwinge Jones will be given a fair crack I remember MGP (Pedersen) never played but Hughes eased him in slowly after a while because he saw his potential in training and got him to baulk up a bit, likes to see what he's got first. Don't think Coruch, Adam or Cameron will leave. I think it all depends on your budget really, you do have a largish squad so id expect a bit of a revolving door but not to the extent you saw at QPR. Can't see Walters, Edu, Jerome, Whitehead, Whelan (Bit of a fan of him)! and Pennant sticking around! He'l like Kightly I think hes quite similar to what he normally plays out wide i.e good crosser, willing runner. As someone has alluded to further up, I don't think Rigg is joining him as we already have someone in place who does his job.

Cartwright I have heard about, not sure about who he is or his history in football or even what his record of players is like but I'd be very very surprised if Hughes hasn't brought in Rigg even if it's only a "Chief Scout" role... Rigg has been to every club Mark has I think and someone who he strongly trusts. Looks after his own men does Sparky... On the otherhand Kevin Cruickshank does the normal scouting co-ordination so im not sure myself.

Hughes interview clipIt'll be interesting how the Cartwright-Hughes link actually works in practice, particularly if Rigg (or even Joorabchian) are lurking in te background blowing in his ear about other players.

Sounds like he has a really decent backroom staff.

Thanks, David, for your great initial post and your subsequent replies. I think your views will probably make a lot of us feel at least a bit better, because if you've read much of this board you'll know that most of us didn't want Hughes here at any price - I certainly didn't.
Also appreciate your comments re. N'Zonzi - he had a very promising start here, but of late has seemed to have lost the plot and come across as a petulant kid all too often. Overall I hope he stays here, but only if he calms down, gets stuck in and makes a big effort to start playing to his full potential, stops chucking his toys out of the pram and learns how to resist the urge to give oppo players a crafty smack every time he thinks they deserve one (even though they often do……)
Very best of luck to you and your team for next season.

I think Huth and Shawcross would do him for centre backs, wouldn't they? Shawcross is the quiet one with the better distribution, Huth is the destroyer.

You can have him and the part about Kightly He his shocking at crossing but does try to beat his man but only sometimes succeeds.
