"Likes to see the midfield dictate the game"
Some of that would be nice!

If there are any questions you have guys, I'l try to answer them. I know the strange optimistic feeling you get over a new manager, we had it four times last year!!! Will either of the centre backs twat the ball up the field AT EVERY OPPORTUNITY even if they are not under pressure? I can't speak for QPR fans but we had four main lads under Hughes which can be split into two groups. Centre halves who are comfortable with the ball such as Samba, Ooijer and look to use the full backs to morode up field. and centre halves who will run through walls for Mark such as Todd, Nelsen who were no nonsense i.e Huth.

Dunny,
Is Nzonzi an idiot for putting in a transfer request or just generally speaking?

How will he manage players misbehaving off the pitch or throwing little hissy fits?

Cheers mate. Nice to hear some positives because all I've thought of lately is how bad it's potentially going to be.

Dunny, Is Nzonzi an idiot for putting in a transfer request or just generally speaking? Generally. We plucked him under Sam from the French second/third division. He's a cracking player all right but his self opinion and nasty streak destroys any chance of him playing at the top. Defiantly a bad apple but I can see Hughes straightening him out something Pulis couldn't do I think. His man-management was second to none at our place, the players loved him and worked for him. I can't recall any player wanting to leave under him which is testament to the job Sparky did.

Defiantly a bad apple but I can see Hughes straightening him out something Pulis couldn't do I think. I think we've seen all those traits this season. He can be petulant, sulky or quality in equal measure. He's by far the most gifted footballer we've got and sometimes is so measured you think he might be the new Vieira. Other times he looks like a sulkier version of Anelka, if that's possible. Pulis well and truly shackled him when he could have been driving into the box, hopefully Hughes will give him a freer rein (if he stays).

Ruts66 - He will perform alright for Hughes. Hes very capable of picking out a 40 yard pass as well as being equally good in possetion however I'd describe him as a box to box sort of player. Allegedly stuck a nut on Steve Kean so think a few fans have good opinions of him but the way he acted when we were going down was very unprofessional and the acts of a spoiled brat. I can't quite believe we sold him for 3million when he was clearly worth triple at the time.

Blackburn Fan In Peace! I’m sure your all quite worried about the prospect of your future under Sparky however I thought that I may offer my opinion which in turn may ally some of your fears. Backroom Staff- His backroom team are second to none and you can expect your team to be the fittest in the league, he buys into all that prozone malarkey. First of you can expect allot of staff changes and this will be done as we had Tony Parkes at our place for 27years until he was sacked and replaced with Hughesies buddies where the following are likely to arrive: Mark Bower Assistant Manager – Clever Guy and I for one believe he is defiantly the brains behind it all, he will one day make a fantastic manager, does allot of the touchline stuff during games. Eddie Niedweski First Team Coach – Ex Arsenal coach who follows Mark everywhere. Glyn Hodges Reserve Team Coach Kevin Hitchcock Goalkeeping Coach Damian Roden Fitness Coach Mike Rigg Technical Director - Is responsible for the gems discovered such as Chris Samba,Ryan Nelsen etc. Kevin Cruickshank Scouting Coordinator Playing style – This varied with us when he took charge of us 8/9 years ago when we were involved in a relegation battle and at the time a very poor squad however I have noticed that everywhere he goes he makes you tight at the back and tough to beat, no doubt he will use the word “resolute” in post-match interviews. We were very physical but never dirty but due to excellent fitness levels we matched every team man for man on the pitch and we closed them down very quickly and were “tough” to beat but we always finished bottom of the fair play! It wasn’t pretty football but it wasn’t boring certaintly no tippy tappy stuff but good solid hard organised work where quality of the delivery was paramount. We had probably the best passer of the ball I have ever seen in Tugay and Bentley had a wand of a right foot for crosses. Transfer Record – David Bentley (700k) Ryan Nelsen (0) Chris Samba (400k) Stephen Warnock (1.5m) Moussa Dembele (5m) Santa Cruz (3.5m) This is proof that he is excellent without money however I don’t think I would ever allow him stupid money because he gets carried away redknapp style but for a club of your size he’l work well in the transfer market. Mark Hughes globally can attract big names but sometimes with these names comes big wages. Big test for Tony Scholes, does he know the word “no”? My View- I honestly couldn’t predict how he will turn out for you guys, I was so sure he would turn QPR around but there seems to be deep routed problems beyond Hughes at that club (Sounds So Familiar) Fulham on paper was a great job but I remember Fulham fans reminding our boards at the time near xmas about there league position (17th) and apparently Danny Murphy galvanised and turned it around for them where they secured 10th. He subsequently left that very summer at the earliest opportunity. I think you have to give him time, history wise he never starts the season well! (Firsts few games) BUT I think he will at least hel keep you midtable with a few European astute signings (Gone are the days of Whitehead & Whelan for you guys). Don’t expect charisma because he’s got less charm than tony despite his suit but its his last chance in the Prem and I think he’l have a point to prove to himself because he should have replaced SAF at Old Trafford if he’d have stayed at ours but he always touted himself away when something half big came along (Newcastle, Man City, Chelsea) and that’s his main problem, his arrogance. Hughes benefits from a strong chairman, I get the impression Fernandes at QPR was a bit of a melt and got walked over however when we had John Williams (Probs the best chairman) he was on a bit of a leash and I think Hughsie under someone like Coates could be moulded in the same way as Williams. Good Luck Guys, Good Appointment Overall, i don't think the was a better candidate on the balance of "Potential", well done on dodging the financial bullet MON. Interesting read. It's all in the balance, isn't it? I've never really liked the bloke but he's our manager now so I'll give him a chance. Nobody knows how it will all pan out. I had reservations about TP coming back, but it worked until it went sour over the last couple of seasons. Either Hughes will do a steady job (in which case he could be here for a long time), or his critics will be proved right. As ever with Stoke, the off-field activities are often more interesting than what happens on the pitch.

N'Zonzi needs to make his mind up very quickly whether he still wants to go or is willing to play under a new manager who won't squeeze the life out of him. I have my doubts and it may be that Hughes feels his commitment isn't there. One thing is for sure, we'll get a lot more than we paid for him. Any more Diames out there on a free?????

My hysteria remains unabated.....if he wins us a trophy I will kiss his ring...anything short of that and I will be a fully paid up member of the Hughes Hating Wank Stains.

Pulis rightly had to go. He's okay if your escaping relegation but he lacks any knowledge of the foreign markets and no knowledge on fitness. His tactics with Delap were quite something...You can argue he brought you up but these people who are comparing you to us and Charlton know nothing.
Coates has money, he's also not stupid (Venkys are) if i'd spent the money he has on players i'd expect allot more added to the fact he couldn't manage ego's.
Hughes will be fine after last years bomb scare with relegation, mid-table and consolidation has to be the target to build from, can see Hoillett type signings and perhaps 10th is realisitic.

Refreshing to hear a positive view of the situation.
However, his blackburn days are a long time ago now, and I worry that he has developed negatively since then.

Really interesting read Dunny, thanks for taking the time to let us know your perspective of Hughes. I must admit I was on the fence regarding the appointment, your comments give me hope we have got the right man to take us forward.
Sorry about the chicken people screwing up your club, you don't deserve it although I noticed you have signed your Manager for the new season and he sounds decent sort. Best of luck, let's hope next season is better for you.

Stoke in allot of respects are a similar club to who we were, stable and sound financially with PL pedigree. He hasn't been at a club for longer than 18months other than BRFC. It's an ideal opportunity to get a sound mid-table placing and push on over the next few years. Part of Sparky's problems are that he's snatched at any job rather than waiting for the right one. QPR was a tough job for anyone and we all know the problems they've had over the years. Fulham were a good fit and he did okay in his short spell (10th) there.
Time for him to sit put for a few years and build something, couldn't think of a better resourced and run club to do it than Stoke.
* CHEERS for the best wishes for us. We have a guy since Sam who generally cares about the club, managing the youth for nine years and a very honest and decent chap unfortunately we have boardroom problems and owners who are not fit and proper to run a club with the alleged influence of a certain agent. Think Steve Kean has set us back ten years to a place difficult to now get out of, funny how he was hailed as a gem but he never gets touted for any jobs nowadays.

Knowing what you do about Hughes and our squad, what kind of players do you see us bringing in this summer? I genuinely think he will look to make sure the defence is settled first then look to build, always a priority of his is to remain "resolute". Huth will defiantly stay as I seem to remember ourselves once tracking him as a target under Hughes. I'd expect a few foreign players to come in on recommendation of Rigg who is an excellent spotter of talent, there does seem to be a better quality of player for your money abroad. His previous signings could be replicated, I could see him taking Bentley on a free who your being linked with. I could see Hoillett perhaps coming in as he was a regular under Mark at QPR. Two great low money signings there of which are a good age and motivated to prove a point. Players like Palacios, Brek O'shea, Kenwinge Jones will be given a fair crack I remember MGP (Pedersen) never played but Hughes eased him in slowly after a while because he saw his potential in training and got him to baulk up a bit, likes to see what he's got first. Don't think Coruch, Adam or Cameron will leave. I think it all depends on your budget really, you do have a largish squad so id expect a bit of a revolving door but not to the extent you saw at QPR. Can't see Walters, Edu, Jerome, Whitehead, Whelan (Bit of a fan of him)! and Pennant sticking around! He'l like Kightly I think hes quite similar to what he normally plays out wide i.e good crosser, willing runner.

Awesome post man, shared it on twitter to put some doubters' minds at rest too. I think along with the press conference this morning, this post will have relaxed most stoke fans. Honestly I think he can do a good job it's a shame his career has taken a plunge recently but under Coates and Scholes and at Stoke a proper old English club I think he'll work wonders. Good Mid-table spot this season and build on from there, could see you competing in Uefa Cup if its still around like we used to in a few years. The fact Harry Redknapp has a worse points to game ratio than Hughes suggests that the QPR problems run deeper than the managers situation, you wouldn't exactly say Harry is rubbish. Sometimes a job is made for you or you "fit" he does at stoke in the same way moyes did at everton. Michael Laudrup isn't exactly rubbish because he failed at Spartak Moscow and maybe Pardew at Southampton etc...
