In the cold light of day the previous manager took us into the premiership, stayed there for 6 years,5-0 s/f win/a fa cup final,a couple more cup runs up to the q/f stages and gates doubled. The records will say all these things they will not record the fact a percentage of supporters were losing the will to live. So what will the new man have to do to keep the fans happy.

i'm sure some will say place nice, entertaining football but if we do 'play the right way' but lose every week I don't think many will be happy.

Mid-table, the odd cup run and fast, positive football would suit the vast, vast majority of fans IMO.

No fear of relegation. Rising attendances forcing expansion and growing revenues. England caps for Stoke-produced players.

First season in charge, with the rebuilding that needs to happen, I would honestly be happy with 17th as long as the signs of long-term progress were there.

rob,
This huge desire to get rid of Tony Pulis is about wanting a higher league position and winning many more games.
If the new manager only delivers 45 points and a bit more excitement the fans will be after him as well.

If the new manager only delivers 45 points and a bit more excitement the fans will be after him as well. You are basing that on literally nothing Geoff. How many people on here have demanded an improved league position? Nobody wants top 6 or Champions' League, it's a straw man argument the acolytes have devised because they can't accept the truth.

First year: Top ten finish. At least one good cup run. A Pulis-style defence but a Keegan-style attack. Fewer negative comments on every Stoke game from neutrals. Younger players getting a look-in. If none of this is achieved, what was the bloody point in getting rid of TP?

More positive away form and results plus buying into the development of the academy.

Sorry mate but you won't be satisfied if Stoke try to win but finish up losing. There is no football supporter anywhere in the World like that.

So if the new man only manages the same league position then he would of failed. But if we won the FA cup played a forward looking game but got relegated he would be seen as a success. IMO success would be watching a team that is allowed to play in a manner that can compeat and also excite.

What Rob said. Where has anyone ever moaned about where we have finished? How we got there - yes. But not the finishing position.

When Pulis actually set out his team to win games they looked worlds better Geoff. If he could've brought himself to do that more often he'd probably still be here.

It's a damn sight better than losing whilst boring the arse off us all Geoff I don't expect us to win or even draw every game but whether we win lose or draw I want to watch the team actively competing and creating chances every few minutes and not one in the 4th minute and then a half chance in the 73rd minute And that was a good day I am easily pleased
