That's the issue here....
You can all put your own labels on the candidates as to their suitability and experience , but one man currently stands head and shoulders above all the rest.
Rafa..
If we can spend £20 million on an ageing ineffectual strikeforce like we have , then we should empty the 'war chest ' to secure the services of Rafa Benitez if he's willing to come. We should not be piddling about with the likes of Mark (Mr Depressing) Hughes or Roberto (Relegation) Martinez.
Its as simple as that I'm afraid....
Rafa = Bargain.

I'd be surprised if Rafa's wages were a stumbling block.
I'd be far more doubtful about whether we would be willing or able to offer him the budget to spend on players and more importantly their wages than he has hitherto been used to at Internationale, Liverpool and Chelsea.
To that end I strongly suspect he would not be a jot bit interested.
Also don't forget we are supposed to be 'breaking even' and breaking even in effect means no European football and that in turns means no Rafa.

But being head and shoulders above means he will get offers from bigger clubs, it would be great but I still can't see him coming to Stoke.

Apart from Everton ....there's no one in the Premiership currently 'bigger' in financial clout and even that's debateable ...He does want a project, and wants to stay in Britain. The expectations would be lower and easier to achieve.

He says he wants to stay in Britain, but anyone who thinks he'll turn down a big job overseas to come to Stoke is barking, IMO.

As Gods said. The money he'd want to spend on signings and the £5 millions + per year on players wages would see us all "cough up the Vale" Stoke being in the premier league is not about us finishing in the top 6. It's about us finishing above the bottom 3. We need time to grow and we've just taken a step backwards...

Offer him £4 million a year, a £30 million transfer budget in the first season and lets push the boat out for him. If we can afford to spunk £20 million on Crouch & Palacios then I'm sure we can empty the war chest for him to transform us into top half challengers.
We have a solid core squad, we just need that extra bit of quality in the dugout and on the pitch to push us up the league.
Rafa is an outstanding candidate with a history of getting clubs punching above their weight and achieving.
He'd totally transform the image of the club and players might actually want to come to us if we had him in charge.

Karl Benz ( founder of the car co) once said "if you truly want to build and achieve quality, that'll do simply won't do" which is why if the club truly wants to move forward and upward it cannot be Hughes and should be Rafa or someone of his level.

It'll take more than cash to get quality to Stoke. Bright lights and sunny climes we're not. Does anyone really want us to pay even more than silly money on wages for players who sulk at the drop of a hat and have no commitment. Tevez for one springs to mind. There are plenty of others such as, err...
