For me Shawcross is the best centre back in the Premier League. He reads the game better than any other defender I've seen, strong in the air, strong in the tackle and can play with both feet. He's clearly being instructed to launch the ball at the first opportunity and it's making him look a poor player. Sadly the time has come for him to move on to fulfill his potential.

He's great, but he doesn't half keep getting the wrong side of attackers when they run in the box. Experience I suppose.

Sorry to say if you think Shawcross is that good you don't no much about football.Thats why he is at Stoke and signed a new deal because no one else wanted him.

I hope he finishes career with us - under a manager that will allow him to play football again at some stage in the near future

For me Shawcross is the best centre back in the Premier League. Steady now... He's bloody good and has saved Stoke on occasions. Solid mid-upper table CB which is where Stoke would be right now if Pulis didn't play for a draw every game. Sorry to say but he wouldnt get a look in at the league contenders.

He's fucking great, I love him and he arguably represents our resurgence from the lower reaches of the leagues more than anyone else. But in the cold light of day, at the very top level his game is a bit limited and he's probably not quite international class. From a very selfish point of view this is probably good for us - there is a chance he could stay with us his whole career and become a proper Stoke legend.

I cannot believe those of you who are blaming Shawcross for their goal tonight. You seem to have a very simplistic view of the goal based on the fact that Shawcross was supposed to be marking O'Shea. You conveniently ignore the glancing deflection from Deano's head which put the ball directly away from Ryan and into O'Shea's path. Just what did you expect Ryan to do in those circumstances...stop, turn on a sixpence and intercept the deflection all in a split second? I would hate to work for you lot if your expectations are set so ridiculously high.

He seems to have lost confidence over the last couple of months. I would like him to stay alongside Huth and our team to have a more balanced set up with 2 stronger players as full backs

A 3rd quality CB would add competition.

It was Bego and not Shawcross at fault for their goal as the cross was no more than three metres from the goal line, therefore Bego could easily have punched it safely away!

I rate Ryan highly, but his form has declined rapidly since January if we are honest. His defending for their goal last night was very poor, and his first half performance against Norwich last week was possibly as bad as I've seen him play in a Stoke shirt. I'm sure he'll rediscover his form sooner or later, but we can have no complaints about him not making recent England squads the way he has been performing over the last few months.

Better centre backs in this league? How about Kompany and Vidic for a start. Hes good, but to say he's the best in the league is pushing it imho

A 3rd quality CB would add competition. I think a "quality" one would force out one of the main 2. I was more than happy with Upson as cover, unfortunatley he wasnt happy on the bench was he? And i think there will be mass suicides if TP brought in another center back before alot of other positions were strengthened

Vidic, Rio (this season), Nastasic (up and coming), Kompany, Jagielka are just a few who are better than Ryan. He's not the best at all, far from it. But he's good, and a bad spell aside he's showing the competencies we need at the back. Think England is a chance missed though.

Yes, and also no man on the back post, - up to the keeper to sort that out. Ryan could have done better but poor command of the box by the keeper.

Him and Huth are very good, without one another they struggle big time. Will never be first class and a England regular but like whats been said ^ that is a good thing for Stoke and he is our stand out player and top captain!

Shawcross is one of the best CB's in England, without a doubt. I don't think his international career is over by any means either.
What Ryan lacks the most (even considering he plays against top class forwards most weeks) is European experience, so in that regard maybe he would be better off with a higher level team than Stoke. The fact we have him signed up for so long is nothing but good news though and if we are to actually progress forward as a team then Ryan Shawcross is most definitely the spine to build from.
