Villa win keeps Sunderland below us and we stay 12th. Might also puncture the PDC bubble before we play them.
Sunderland win and we drop a place; keeps the relegation dogfight more firmly between Villa and Wigan, and us further away from it.
A draw is sounding the best bet.....

We were discussing this on the way back on Saturday. I think a draw is the best option - both the other options have downsides.

Shouldn't you be yomping around the fells at this time in the morning LP? :) My eldest dog (of unknown age but even older than me in dog years) is reaching the point where she doesn't do long fell walks. So she needs a short walk early on (which she will be getting in half an hour or so) and then she will be left to snooze in front of the TV all day whilst the young dog and I go for a "proper" walk.

A draw, definitely. Have we even taken a point at Sunderland since we got into the. Pl? I think we are nailed on to lose in any event.

Sunderland to win, or draw. We are not 100% safe yet and Wigan and Villa are our main relegation rivals now. Sunderland will probably finish above us anyway but Villas remaining fixtures are pretty tough ones.

A draw but a Sunderland win would do just fine as well

A draw or Villa win, drag Sunderland back into it and diminish any 'passion' which DiCanio has instilled in them.

A draw or a loss for Sunderland. We want their run to end before we play them

Can't see us getting anything next week regardless of their result today. So Sunderland win I hope.

Villa win or draw. There's absolutely no way Wigan are going to take 8 points from West Brom, Swansea, City and Arsenal. Relegation battle is over for this season as far as Stoke are concerned. Lets go for the best finish we can.

I think Villa will win this one which of the three possibilities is probably the worst for us.

A 6-0 villa win, would keep us our 3 point margin and give us a better goal difference than Sunderland . I just can't see villa AND Wigan both going on runs that would have them surpass 39points. Damaging the di canio affect would do us no harm either

Lets go for the best finish we can. I think you are right. Wigan look doomed, especially with some of the luck they are having. Can't see them escaping this time. Shame; I quite like them and would rather Sunderland plummeted.

Agreed, a horrid 0-0 live on Sky I believe. One of the worst Premier League games I'd seen until this season.

Sunderland win is a must.
Lets keep the relegation fight between 2 teams. The sooner we are mathematically safe the better, I can't see us winning another game this season so we need villa and wigan to lose every game.

Well, 8 points from West Brom, Swansea and Arsenal and Villa is almost as impossible. Plus they'll have to go for it in the FA Cup, 3 days (?) before facing Arsenal.

Aernt we even more nailed on to be safe with a sunderland win, because both wigan and AVFC cant get three points from their last match ie if they are both below us by the start of the Soton game were safe anyway.

Glad that now we are safe I don't have to support Scunderland!

Although I would love to see the Di Canio bubble burst spectacularly even a defeat wouldn't be a disaster as they would expect to pick up points at home to us and Soton. Both Villa and Wigan have games against teams desperate for Champs league places so it looks increasingly like a shoot out at Wigan on the last day of the season...what fun!

We aren't safe yet. Almost done, but not quite yet.
Any points Villa get tonight are points they move closer to us. As they are the lower of the 2 teams playing tonight then it makes sense that them getting 0 points is the best outcome for us.

Was speaking to one after the 6-0 defeat and he sounds like us lot before the QPR game. They only have one home game left now and that is against Arsenal on the last day! I reckon they will beat QPR away as QPR have nothing to play for but that would only take them to 40 points and their goal difference is now -23.
