Very surprised this thread isn't getting more posts.
I would have thought most people would be seriously pissed off by it.

You can't profess to be a Stoke fan and then allow crap like this to happen.

It's an amazingly stupid thing for anyone to do.
I dare say they aren't aware (or weren't) but who in there right mind wouldn't think when telling someone to put it there "oh hang on minute..."??

The statues should all be around the main entrance. To put a litter bin next to Big Johns statue is tantamount to blasphemy.

I've always wondered if a lot of what goes on gets hidden from PC's eyes/ears. We seem so shambolic off the pitch but nothing ever seems to get sorted because the man who is the problem is the solution too. It just can't work.

Maybe he knew nothing about it but the fact that the statue was hidden away there was scandalous anyway. Ritchie and players like him are OUR legends and OUR heroes. They should be celebrated and remembered with respect and pride. I guess the terrible loss of Paul Ware has made me more aware just how big a part these players play/have played in our lives.

That is so true Foxy, watching the montage today made me very emotional. We should respect our heroes past and present they are part of Stoke City and to stick a bin next to one of our greatest ever goal scorers in NOT a mark of respect.

I don't know either way tbh foxy! But if he doesn't know about how the club is run it's 1) worrying and 2) very naïve. And if he does and he doesn't give a shit then it's an absolute disgrace on his behalf. I totally agree about the statues and what not though. And it's trivial in the grand scheme of the problem but what makes it more annoying is that these statues are actually fantastic bits of art as well as fitting memories for our heroes.

If they need to remove concrete footings etc for the bin, they may aswell just move the statue instead. Am I right in thinking it was placed there so he was looking towards the victoria ground? Whatever it's placed there for it obviously wasnt thought through properly, that being the dark, mossy side of the ground. I like the statue layout idea from german stokie. A sort of 'guard of legends' at the entrance, sir stan being the main statue and others in the style of the john ritchie statue to either side produced to accompany it. Banks, steele, waddington to name a few to celebrate 150years of legends.

There are a handful of people who run the club ....who are rather full of their own importance and really think they are the club ...they are sadly deluded individuals who don't realise that the team on the pitch and the manager is what it's all about ...the memories of games won and lost ....the pain, the glory ...the occasional trophy ..or cup final .. To be fair to Peter Coates he has put money into the club...and when certain matters are brought to his attention he will often act ..but it's not always easy getting his attention ...you have to get past a lot of foot soldiers .....there are too many "yes" men at the club...

Glad that Ange1 has brought it to the club's attention, though it looks as though others have done too. Re the Gordon Banks statue. I think I'm correct in saying Stoke City do not own that statue and so have no say in where it is positioned. I remember it was a committee that held a game at the Brit when Pele and all came along. Maybe as part of the 150 years "celebrations" they can move the statue of big John and give him a decent resting place. The club is run by people with no interest in our history, one of the problems of being in the Prem. They 'll not be seen for dust if we ever go down though. Mercenaries like some players

I hope I do not meet scholes before he leaves.... I WILL be arrested Surely it's Mr Coates who shoud face the flak here? It is his club after all. Get it sorted fast. Wasn't it Peter who wanted it put there? Disgraceful thing to do.

It looks like a big fuck off can of worms and it certainly doesn't paint a good image of anyone with authority at the club.

Just typical of this club's thinking, how can we piss the fans off now, i know we will put stans statue as far away from the stadium as possible then make a bust of one of our greatest goalscorers and put it where 75% of people dont know where it is , lets grow conifers all around the training ground so nobody now can watch us train, stoke city like my fucking arse!

Agreed and put the Commercial Director with him for starters. They do not care one jot about the heritage of our club, and even less, if possible about us the paying supporters.

The things that seem so obvious to normal thinking people ..seem alien to certain high ranking employees at Stoke ..
