coskickabow,
I think your timing is all wrong, where were you a few weeks ago?
Tony Pulis has gone, it's time to think ahead and back the new manager, as the former manager asked fans to do.
Although you have every right to post such threads, I now think the tone of your remarks are not helping fans to remember Pulis with the respect he deserves.
Discuss his record by all means, but let's not encourage the anti Pulis faction to keep on posting their negative views.

RAF Why won't you acknowledge the solid foundations that are now in place due largely to the efforts of the previous manager (supported by the Coates family)? The development of Clayton Woods to its present standard would not of been possible to fund without the income generated from sustained Premiership football which was delivered by the previous manager. I have done countless times you just choose to ignore that. Some might start thinking in terms of agenda's where your selective memory and posts are concerned. Not me I'm not that cynical. Whether the academy was built because of his efforts or not, we do know he had little to no interest in it. He tried to shut it down once, fortunately Phil Rawlins and then later Peter Coates saw it's necessity and importance ultimately helping in his own downfall. H

I have heard this "he tried to shut the academy down once" on many occasions. Where is the evidence for this?

I don't reckon 'he tried to shut it down' but he certainly begrudged the money being spent on it.
However,Tone was king..long live the new king!

FFS it’s blindingly obvious some of you aren’t happy with Pulis and his current team selection/tactics and style of football, but show the man some respect and stop slagging him off for anything he does and everything he says some of the vitriol aimed towards him is totally out of order, just remember he’s the one that’s been responsible for arguably the best days we’ve ever witnessed at Stoke. Some of the things posted on here say just how disgustingly fickle some of the Johnny come lately’s are and some of you should hang your heads in shame but then again some of you won’t bat an eye lid over it probable the same ones that bet money on Stoke going down and openly brag about hoping it’ll happen if it means getting rid of the manager. It’s these so-called fans that I really wish would fuck off up the Vile and stay there. Gouranga. Tony has been my hero for many years now and I'm really sorry to see him go, but despite this I will back Hughes all the way till he proves he can't hack it!

Can't expect to earn much respect when you've only been in the job 2 days!

TP's job priority was one thing...retain Premiership status.......which he did, end of
There is nobody more than me who was frustrated from the turn of the year (2012/2013) in respect of performances etc. There are 27000 unqualified coaches who would tell you what was wrong tactically.
Whether or not TP will be remembered as our best ever manager is immaterial. The facts are with the support of the Coates family he has left a legacy that will provide MH and future managers/coaches a solid foundation to which then can work from
The funny thing is that I know certain posters that will be gritting their teeth in agreement with the general aspects of the post

The thing is with academy's is they aren't cheap. Some clubs do very well out of it and it's a sustainable model for them. But it's not the only way.
If you can pick out young players like Shawcross, buy them, develop them and sell them, you can do very well from it without having to pump millions in to your own academy. Of course it's not easy picking out lots of Shawcrosses though.
My point is there two sides to the academy philosophy and neither is right or wrong. It depends what works for the individual club. Our board seem intent on developing e academy and becoming self sufficient through it. That's great. But it doesn't mean it's the right philosophy for everyone. Tone wasn't big into it because he thought for the money it takes, he could do better buying younger players. The profit we would make on a Shawcross or Begivic would offset the lack of internal players coming through.
There's no right or wrong in my opinion. Both methods work well if managed correctly or fail if done badly. I presume Coates wants something in place that we will always have should they leave. From a long term prospective it's probably wise but in the short to medium term, I can see whynTone wasn't enamoured with it. It can cost a hell of a lot of money in financing a big youth set up.
As for the original point, I agree, Toje has been given nowhere near the respect he deserves. But we've got to look to the future now. Onwards and upwards.

No seriously. Where is the evidence that TP tried to shut the academy down, I'm not saying its a lie but I think we need to see some proof for that claim,
Even if true there is some justification for a premier league club not spending a fortune on it. I know people think of academy players as free money but they're not.
And during the last couple of years the rumour is the youth players were crap, bar one.
